He IS worth the money. He IS a top QB in this league and he IS NOT declining:

League Ranking 2014 Regular Season:

Total Yards - #1 (Sign of decline in play)
Total TD's - #5 (Can't score)
20+ Yd Pass Plays - #9
40+ YD Pass Plays - #6 (I know, he lost his arm at old age)
Attempts - #1
INT's - #4
Completion % - 69.2%

How in the world can someone sit there any say that this guy needs to be traded or take a pay cut. Take a pay cut after all he did was torch the league?

This QB is most probably the best QB the franchise will ever have. One of the best to ever play the game and is still playing at a very high level.

I disagree with this...much closer to 100%. Lets say 99.99% with a .01% margin for error.

INT's - #4

What? He had the 3rd most int's in the league. Many at critical moments. Not all lost the game, but they certainly didn't win them for us. He is declining. His contract hurts. But he is also still good enough for us to win if we get the right pieces around him.

The terrible interior line did him no favors.

Leading the league in attempts also didn't either. Big Ben was sacked more times in less games and still threw 10 less INT's. He is part of the team and deserves blame just like everyone else.

I will always wonder what could have been if Graham didn't drop all those passes

Looking at just sacks is foolish though. Brees is ridiculous at avoiding them, sometimes costing us

I agree. Raise the point for everyone that excuses the int numbers by saying "but he has a terrible line!" He needs to get them down. A big reason they are so high is because of poor play calling and him trying to do too much. I think he struggles with trust and makes every throw like the game is on the line. If we get the talent around him, he will relax more and loosen up a little bit. Guarantee the INT's go down in the that case.

Definitely agree

CSP's play calling was suspect at times

An extension would make sense. Brees would still get paid, even more, but they could free up cap $$. He has a very large cap hit this season and next. I don't understand why they won't do it this season?

I also understand a lot of people can't get Brees' dick out of their mouth long enough to admit this would help, but instead will attack people who bring it up, and parrot the phrase "they are waiting until next year." Right, because a $26 million cap hit is awesome because it's Drew Brees. The cap hit sucks! Pay the man, just rework...extend the deal. Gonna have Brees, but not a team to compete.

I am a fan. He has been a great player, but if the saints struggle again this year it is time to trade him to a contender that needs a QB. Belichek is right about trading a player one or two tears too soon as opposed to one or two years too late

Ever think that the reason they don't want to do it now is because the team wants to see if he can rebound before extending him for anther 3-5 years and giving him anther huge signing bonus. They might be using this year as a measuring stick to determine how long he may have left & how big of a bonus/contract to give him.

Plus, it appears the team is going to be about $10M under the cap and have a few other moves they want to make. Therefore, it would appear extending him right now is a bit unnecessary.

Funny how people tend to give the Pats the benefit of the doubt when they do it, but want to bash their own team when they try to do it. Maybe the team figured Sproles had 1-2 good year left, lets bash them for trading him. Maybe they have the same thoughts about PT & Lofton, but lets bash them for trying to make moves and move on sooner rather than later.

I haven't seen one person say that Brees taking a pay cut or getting an extension wouldn't help.

The saints FO wants to wait until next year to bring it to the table. That's their plan, not Drew's.

He'd love to get an extension right now

Did I hear that he's terrible at avoiding sacks... Ahahha grow up people. Watch the game have a clue. That's prob he's best attribute is avoiding sacks and making something out of nothing
