We had the same problem. Unless you have a huge job or you're a contractor promising lots of repeat business, they're going to bid it sky high hoping someone else does the job, or they're going to take it and do really shitty work. There's just not that many residential electricians out there with the demand for industrial being so sky high right now. That means the really good ones that can pass a drug test are in the plant, the pretty good ones who can't pass a drug test are working for contractors on jobs much larger than yours, the mediocre ones who can still pass a drug test are in the plant, and the ones that can't stay clean and are incredibly shitty are the ones available for you to hire.

Yeah, my rec is my FIL. Retired electrician that still likes to get out the house and do odd jobs. Was a residential electrician for 20-30 years I believe.

Got into it in the 70/80s with electrical component work.

Yeah, I have called probably six places and they all take my info down and then I wait a few days and call back and they take my info down again as if I'm a first time caller.

Best thing to do is look in the YPs. Hire whoever has a full page ad because they are probably the best in the area and will give you a reasonable quote.

This has me concerned. We're going to be building there in the coming year and was thinking about subing it out ourselves. It's a custom plan so it will require some thought and skill. Thinking it might be this way for most of the trades.

Subbing a job out yourself can be a great idea if one is experienced at dealing with contractors, already has a short list of subs who will work for him, and has the time to watch the site like a hawk to make sure subs are working.

It can be a disaster otherwise (I know because I got to watch one of these jobs go down in flames as I impersonated this Ron Paul meme)

If you can't do those things above, hiring a reputable general contractor is generally the way to go because:
1. They will have the attention span to babysit your subs for you.
2. They get a discount from lumber yards and suppliers on material.
3. They have a subs competing for their repeat business.

So apparently in Ascension parish you are not required to pull an electrical permit if you do the work yourself.

I might just run the wire and conduit myself and try to find an electrician to terminate everything.

Yes you are. You just can pull your own permits
