In base running, no doubt. Hitting is tough to pinpoint. You have a much more experienced lineup, new baseballs, and a pretty easy schedule. The approach at the plate hasn't been much different.

Won't really know until they're facing quality SEC pitching three games a week.

this. The aggressiveness in stealing bases is a direct result of Canni. The success in stealing bases is in part a result of the ridiculous speed on this team and in part the technique learned from the new coach combined with said aggressiveness. The rest of the stats are a result of a deep, experienced lineup.

They are definitely a lot more aggressive.
SEC play may restrict that a little.

Didnt we lead the SEC in hits multiple years with Javi? Stats sure werent allowed to back him up on here

That's not true. Remember the issues last year with being too aggressive ("Let it rip!")? Bregman and others are way more patient and hitting better pitches, but that always comes with experience.

Except Chinea. Kid swings at everything.

We haven't been buntballing or "run manufacturing" that much this season. Of course that's probably another byproduct of the lowered seams.

Stevie swings at some bad pitches too.

I think the big increase in straight steals has influenced bunting more than anything.

You're probably right. Does anyone want to find a way to compare this year's stolen bases rate and percentage to last year's?

When you consider that Cannizaro has never been a hitting coach before, it's difficult to give him too much credit at this point. We saw some decent arms this past wkend & the big boys are coming at us starting this wkend with the black bears, so we'll know more soon enough. Still a ton of popups/fly outs vs ground ball outs at this point of the season.

Hitting wont really be noticeable till conference play is well underway.

Christian Trent will be a helluva start.

It's almost as if a hitting coach isn't the end-all, be-all determination of a team's hitting ability/mindset.

Through 16 games last year, we had 15 steals in 23 attempts. Right now we have 31 steals in 37 attempts.
