Thanks for the advice windshieldman.

I did Chantrix a number of years ago and was off cigarettes for about 7 months. But I had some really weird dreams and could never get a good night sleep. My golf buddy gave me a vape thing for my last birthday. I have used it on and off, but strangely I find it more harsh than the Marlboros that I smoke.

I suppose the critical piece that is missing is a true desire to quit. It is the dumbest thing that I do.

Can you share any affects it had on your taste and smell?

Beer: tastes way way way better.
Wine: ditto
smell: much improved.
taste(overall): better, but different. I used to love peanut butter, but now it's just kind of "meh". You'll find that you'll like some foods better, but some that you like will be less appealing. I still hate olives, though. frick olives.

Yea I completely understand, it took me many times to finally succeed. I became pretty much a joke at work everytime I'd try to quit b/c it would only last a few days and I was right back buying them again. My coworkers would just roll their eyes and laugh when I said I'm done with smoking One of the hardest things I've ever done. Took me a full year to truly get over not wanting a smoke. Mornings were my weakness, every relapse I had was in the morning

I'm usually really really good at recommending wine. Occasionally I just can't seem to pair one for a particular person...and then I ask them if they smoke. 99% of the time they say yes. Then I know how to adapt and pick something they will like.

Quit the minute my first born was born. That was 20 years ago. I don't miss freezing my butt off standing on the porch to smoke in Winter. Such a bad habit.

Today makes 1 year for me.

Quit being a regular smoker years ago but always had to have a few while drinking or out with other smokers. Really cut back on the bar nights and which bars I go to - very rarely hang out in a smoky bar anymore. I actually lost weight along the way and am enjoying the surplus in income not throwing down $5 or $10 a night at the bar to smoke.

Congrats!

I quit 3 years ago. Wasn't hard to quit because I wanted to quit, unlike all those other times I "tried to quit." I'd be lying if I said I still don't get the urge every once in a blue moon, but the urges are nothing to deal with anymore. That said, if they told me the world were going to end in a week, I'd smoke again.

You're right about the taste and smell thing. So much better.

I didn't gain any weight when I quit, but I also started running a lot when I quit and I was mindful of my food cravings during the quitting process.

I started back about a year ago, and It was the absolute dumbest thing I could've done. Wife and I went on a vacation and she started drinking and smoking and I wasn't far behind. Took awhile for me to get up to a half a pack a day, but im there now, and I can feel the negative effects of every single cigarette I smoke.

Congrats, but were you smoking 2+ packs a day? That's what $400 equals to.

That's awesome! I smoke one or two after I eat dinner and that's it. A pack usually lasts me about 10 days. I dont even think about them until after i eat dinner. That is the only time I crave them. I need to just quit all together.

Congratulations man. People don't realize how much money is involved. I used to eat out a ton and when I really audited my account, I was spending over a thousand a month on it. It's ridiculous.

Keep up the good sobriety!
