I think most here would agree it's time to give him a shot. It needs to happen this weekend so we're not throwing him to the wolves in SEC play, but there's a decent amount of pressure for him to handle.

I'm hoping deichmann can take over once healthy. It will be really interesting to see who our SS and 2b is next year once we lose Breg and Hale.

I'm curious to see how Deich does if/when he's given a chance. Apparently he didn't do too well in the fall, and this injury has set him back being that he wasn't able to get any playing time before SEC play begins, but who knows what will happen. Also, I think the plan for next year was to put Krob at SS, but that idea may be thrown out the window now.

Hopefully Krob gets it together at the plate but if not I really hope they give deichmann the job. He has a lot to work on but his ceiling is redicoulous

Krob's had almost 15 games to get it together and he's still struggling pretty bad at the plate. We're very deep this year, and there are a couple guys that have the potential to take his spot. It's said he's in there for his defensive capabilities, but I haven't seen him do anything spectacular this year.

ETA: Admins, can you PM why this was anchored please? I'm not bashing, just want to see what other people think... Thanks

Byrd will probably get a start at 2nd base this weekend, according to this article today.

Hope this happens. I'd like to see him start tomorrow, and if he does well, again on Sunday.

Your thread title sucks. Make it more specific.

After 3 or 4 years in the outfield, you think he's our best option?

Foster and Fraley are hitting too well to play Byrd longterm. If you can't trust Foster at 2nd or 3rd then Hale should be at 2nd. If Foster can play 2nd you leave Hale at first and still have Chinea to DH. If Foster can play 3rd, Hale can play 2nd and Zardon can play first. None of these are ideal but if the move is for hitting then it doesn't make sense to start Byrd when we have enough guys hitting well already.

He apparently played 3rd base in high school. I doubt he just lost it all together. He has the speed and plenty of arm. We don't need him to be a world beater. Just make the plays and hit.

Well Hale is already at 3rd, but he needs to be back at 1st. Also, Foster's speed won't matter much at 3rd, how many balls is he gonna be chasing down?

I was noting Foster's speed for 2nd base mainly. I just mean physically he has the tools for either position in the infield. I only mentioned 3rd because I was noting that he played there in high school. Sorry for the confusion.

If he had the tools for either, we would have seen him by now, 15 games into the season and SEC play starting next weekend.

ETA... This thread needs to be unanchored.

I mean in the sense that he has played infield previously and has the speed and arm to play it. I don't necessarily buy that we would have seen him already just because he has the tools to play. Technically Hale has the tools to play it as well but PM thinks Kramer gives us the best chance to make plays at 2nd so he plays. If it was strictly about hitting, Hale would have replaced him a while ago. That's why it doesn't make sense to me to try Byrd if the goal is hitting because we have enough hitters at this point.
