Can confirm Marques Colston has restructured his contract to remain with the #Saints, via a league source. Good call. He's still an asset.

@nfl: RT @RapSheet: #Saints WR Marques Colston, who had a $9.7M cap number, re-did his deal, source said (as @MikeGarafolo noted). He's staying.

Bet that number for this year is around 1.5 now.

If this is a normal restructure(converting base to signing bonus) it only saves $3 mil.

Needs to be a pay cut to save more than that.

Loomising: /lümis ing/ verb

1.The art of finding money where none had previously been present.

My wife Loomised at home Monday afternoon. She washed some pants of mine and found eleven bucks.
I just informed her to quit Loomising with my clothes.

The New Orleans Saints took another step toward getting under the salary cap Friday by restructuring the contract of wide receiver Marques Colston, according to a report by the Times-Picayune.

The Saints were about $15 million over the cap. The exact terms of Colston’s restructuring weren’t known immediately, but it likely will save the Saints several million dollars. Colston had been scheduled to count $9.7 million toward this year’s cap.

Colston, 31, is still a productive player. Last season, he had 59 catches for 902 yards and five touchdowns.

According to Pat Y, even saving us $3M would get us to around $12M over.

Best TD duos in NFL history:

1.Manning-Harrison 112
2.Young-Rice 85
3.Marino-Clayton 79
4.Rivers-Gates 74
5.Brees-Colston 68

Didn't realize this croup was that high up there.

Also wonder if all of Jimmy's are from Brees. If so, he's climbing up that list quick w/ 51 TDs.

Really want to see the details of this restructure. Love Colton but we aren't in position to overpay anyone for time served. The same message is hopefully being relayed with Evans and Grubbs.

Better be a very low number. Saints need to move on.

This and the fact that Brees and Graham are at 51 already just illustrates even more that it isn't so much Colston falling off as much as the fact that Jimmy is our number one receiver and has been since 2011.

So yes Colston shouldn't be making number one money any more but he still isn't done as so many people like to say. 900+ yards is nothing to sneezing at.

That said, he does seem to have a bit of a drop issue lately. He's always had a small fumbling issue.

I'm sure this season will be his swan song. What a find in the '06 draft. Hope to see #12 hanging from the rafters one day.

Agreed and I love the guy. Mike D said it on the radio yesterday this is very similar to what we did with PT last year. Restructure for one year and probably let him go next.

Glad to see Colston staying. He's still a valuable Saint in my book.

It'd have to be a massive pay cut or real cheap extension for him to stay next year. And we'd have to want to keep him.

The PT thing still has me shocked because he was cheap as helll and we have just a camp body and Hightower at that position. Maybe they feel Hightower can take his role?

Of course he's still an asset. Trust me, I'm all about moving on when the time has come, but we can't keep dumping veteran leaders. Everyone, including the coaching staff, agreed that one of the major problems last year was a lack of veteran leadership. That's why I was bummed at the news of PT Cruiser. Colston is an invaluable asset in the locker room, and he's still got the goods as a receiver. He's definitely lost a step, and he had problems with drops last year, but I've got faith that he'll get it together this year. Happy he restructured, but not in the least bit surprised. Dude is a team player, has a great attitude, and we need more like him.

Very happy he's staying.
