Now, it seems, the battlefields are being drawn in the board rooms as well. In a new interview, the Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara differentiated between the Marvel and DC brands by saying “The worlds of DC are very different. They’re steeped in realism, and they’re a little bit edgier than Marvel’s movies.”

quote:

I think the key here is “a little bit” edgier. While it’s fun to joke like he’s throwing down against Marvel, he’s just trying to separate the two universes. A separation that for the most part is false. If anything, a “little bit edgier” could refer to the fact that Batman, as a character, is a bit edgier than Captain America or something. Or that Superman killed Zod at the end of Man of Steel.

In terms of overall realism, though, they’re pretty much on the exact same page. The only difference at this point is Guardians of the Galaxy, but DC will get there too when they release Green Lantern. So Marvel’s seven year head start has created a bit of a difference in reality, but the Earth bound films are similar.

How do you interpret Tsujihara’s DC vs Marvel movie quote?

Probably fair assessment. Just thought these were fun comments.

As long as they don't screw up the Arrowverse on TV I'm fine.

I don't know what that is suppose to imply. I don't know think that Batman being "edgier" than CA or Superman killing Zod makes their whole movie universe edgier than Marvel's. I'm guessing they mean more serious (with less off handed joke which has kind of become a Marvel staple) and darker.

They’re steeped in realism,

And I think this could be a mistake for DC. Realism works for Batman because he his a normal human. But once you start adding characters that can shoot heat rays out of their eyes and can fly, it's a little hard to maintain "realism".

Again, I think they probably mean a more serious and darker world than Marvel.

So edgy = lack of color.

Got it.
