I think the key here is “a little bit” edgier. While it’s fun to joke like he’s throwing down against Marvel, he’s just trying to separate the two universes. A separation that for the most part is false. If anything, a “little bit edgier” could refer to the fact that Batman, as a character, is a bit edgier than Captain America or something. Or that Superman killed Zod at the end of Man of Steel.

In terms of overall realism, though, they’re pretty much on the exact same page. The only difference at this point is Guardians of the Galaxy, but DC will get there too when they release Green Lantern. So Marvel’s seven year head start has created a bit of a difference in reality, but the Earth bound films are similar.
