Don't need smart functions.

My 4 year LG has a green line and there its probably not worth getting it repaired (is it?). So it may be relegated to back porch.

Seems like the best deals on Amazon are for LG's, go figure.

Don't want to spend a ton, so not thinking Samsung. Any recommendations?

I need to measure and see if a 65" would work.

What is your opinion on LG? I am a little apprehensive, since this one is crapping out.

4 years is a pretty short lifespan, but I haven't heard of this being common with LG tvs. I wouldn't be hesitant to buy one, if you find they are a better deal.

Look into Vizio M series. Got my 60" for $800 and it's wonderful.

From the thread last week:

I know they have some larger TVs (50-55) around the $500 mark if you want to be frugal. So do Hitachi and Vizio.

LG and Sony have some around $750.

Check out Amazon

Sanyo.

I wouldn't say LG is particularly superior. Vizio seems to have gotten their shite together the last few years.

At that price, I would throw in the 4 or 5 year protection - might as well , especially if you have had issues with LG before

Yeah, I may pull the trigger.

Any reservations of ordering online?

Is this a comparable TV?

Best Buy Link

Hmm, I didnt realize Best Buy will price match for Amazon, that's pretty solid.

They're certainly comparable - I have never had issues ordering online, but if you have a Best Buy near you and they price match, you can pick it up yourself and don't have to worry about possible damage while in transit.

It's whatever you are most comfortable with. With a TV I would probably go in person, unless the price difference was significant which in this case it isn't.

ETA: Just saw they matched newegg too. I may take advantage of that myself.

Yeah, if they price match - the difference is only the tax. Which I am supposed to pay anyways since we have an Amazon distribution center here.

As far as 5500 vs 5900, I can only assume the 5900 is newer?

Best Buy has some around 500, that may be at least 1 "they".

I think I may go for this one - a 55" may be a bit too big for the room it is going in

Samsung 50"
