It's a big deal for CAV dudes... there's a special "Spur ride" that they have to go on... you don't just "get spurs" because you're CAV.

That's the extent of what I know about it...

I usually minimize my military time, since I was stationed on a carrier operating/maintaining one of the Nuke plants, and put more emphasis on my brothers who were both in the USMC.

If you're going to lie, proper wear of the uniform is not hard to learn, but these folks always screw up major details.

That's what I don't understand about these. It's literally the easiest thing to visibly get away with. How do they frick that stuff up?

Then again, I knew some people in ROTC that didn't know their arse from a hole in the ground

Oh, it's still there... but I've thrown around a bunch of military lingo to blank stares and record scratches...

First time I heard the saying was at North Fort Polk in 1984 or so. Us grunts complaining that the tankers got to wear special boots. One of my NCOs said something about DAT boots. Had no clue what he was talking about so he explained it to me.

Running the officer basic course at Fort Sam Houston in 97 or so. During a special one week pre-course we show them how to wear the uniform, salute, march, etc. I was a CPT at the time. MAJ (Dr) kept saluting me, calling me sir.

Yeah, the excuse I was given was they could not have laces because they would melt in a fire. I am like, an M60A3 can catch on fire but an M113A2 can't?

My feeling, as longs as he cuts in the right direction then I am cool. But I have to admit, it was a hard thing to go from being a SSG 11B then ROTC grad to being an MSC dealing with docs who had no clue what the military was about.

HPSP and USUHS is a good thing for those who cannot afford school.

You'd think that if you're going to "fake" it.. you'd do a LITTLE bit of research?

That said, there's a lot of things you can't get unless you actually served... You wouldn't know anything about BNCOC or ANCOC if you wore a SSG/SFC rank... and you sure as shite can't ask someone who knows to help you fake it

I've actually tried to catch dudes in the airport who were acting like assholes... two civies and a SGT and I asked him where he went to PLDC and he knew exactly where he went... that was it.
