Would I be wrong in saying the Metroid series is HIGHLY neglected by Nintendo?

IMO, it's Nintendo's 2nd best franchise just by sheer quality of game. The last game we got was 4 years ago and it was made by Team Ninja of all companies. Which actually I thought brought some life into an otherwise stoic but action packed series.

SPOILER ALERT

They left the end of MP3C at a cliffhanger and it was the last game made by Retro in the series. Even though Dark Samus (Metroid Prime as a doppelgänger) supposedly "died," a ship followed her at the ending cutscene. The last time I played the Prime games was so long but my God they were some awesome games. Anybody feel the same? I think with the recent perception by the general media of Samus being only a "sex object" or the like has had some effect on the forward progression of the series. That's just speculation though.

HOWEVER, a Youtuber if I'm not mistaken that goes by the name of Macintyre Productions says that there IS a team that's being assembled to make the next game soon enough. Hopefully that goes through.

These days, Nintendo just releases the obligatory Mario, Zelda, SSB, and Mario Kart for the respect console generation then calls it a day.

Hmmmm maybe in the last few years its been neglected, but it's from an over saturation in the early 2000's.

From 2002-2010 they released 9 games.

Personally, I only like the 2D Metroid games. I'm not going to buy a Wii U for a Metroid game, and I think that's true for most. It's just not a system seller like Mario, Pokemon, and Zelda are.

That said, if they were to release a new Metroid on the 3DS (A system that seems too perfect of a fit for the series) I'd buy the game day 1.

There have been new Metroid games for every single console including handhelds. They've spun off a Prime series. I think (hope) that Nintendo knows Zelda will kick life into the Wii U this winter and they'll have more new franchise titles, including Metroid, lined up for 2016

Guess you didn't play Metroid Prime

Also to answer the OP Nintendo's most neglected franchise is Banjo-Kazooie because they let Microsoft buy Rare and take it with them

For whatever reason, Metroid doesn't sell well in Japan. It is seen as one of Nintendo's big series in the western regions, but over there it just isn't a hit.

I loved the Prime trilogy and would absolutely love for Retro to get the chance to make another game in the series.

Other M never happened.

Except for those pesky tired, unoriginal games like Nintendoland, Splatoon, Kirby, Yarn Yoshi, Toad Treasure Tracker, and DK Tropical Freeze.... and produced titles like Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta.

Highly no, neglected...eh. When it comes to a franchise I'd rather sparse release of extremely high quality rather than an yearly release of the same game over and over again. But that's me.

Guess I'm in the minority. I'm looking forward to Zelda and hopefully another 3D Donkey Kong game, but Metroid is the game changer for me. Bring it on.

Metroid is pretty fantastic. Not sure how OP puts it above Mario or Zelda. But still pretty amazing.

I guess I'm also in there too. Metroid Prime is my favorite game of all time. A new Metroid game (developed by a team that understands Metroid) would definitely sell a Wii U to me. That is, if I didn't already own one.

Yes, you would be wrong.

You want neglected?

Look over at table 9 where series like F-Zero, Earthbound/Mother, and Kid Icarus hang out. If you want to really be sad, go to the bathroom to see Starfy handing out towels and begging for tips. Outside by the corner begging for change you'll see Sin and Punishment.

Star Tropics

I also wish there were more Punch Out games since the first 2 are GOATs and the Wii one is pretty damn good too.

Agreed. It's now been 8 years since we've had a good Metroid game (Other M was an absolute abortion). You can really tell just from Smash Bros on how neglected Metroid is. All we get are lava and dark levels for stages. Metroid doesn't seem to have any more lava levels than Mario does, but you've seen some diversity on that front. Why couldn't we have Mother Brain Chamber, Crateria, Chozo Ruins, Phendrena Drifts, Phazon Mines, Sanctuary Fortress, Ing Hive, Skytown, Pirate Homeworld, or Phaaze? Do we always have to get some lava themed level?

If I only owned a Wii U, I'd probably be disappointed with it, but I have so many games on my backlog that I don't mind. Not to mention, there are still several games I want for Wii U. I just got Wonderful 101 through Club Nintendo and, while I've only played a little of it, I love it so far.

I also want to get Super Mario 3D World because I think my wife might play it with me and I still love Mario games. And I discovered while playing Super Metroid that the virtual console is pretty nice since I can use the gamepad to play it while she watches TV. And then there is Bayonetta 1 & 2, which I want to pick up eventually.

Truth be told, the Wii U isn't that much worse than the PS4 or XBO in terms of games *I* want to play right now. That will probably change with Bloodborne, UC4, and MGS5, but it's presently the reality.

I tend to forget I have it. I've discovered that I'm not into platformers much anymore which takes away a large chunk of the library.

With my backlog though it's hard to justify all these consoles. That's why I don't have an xbox 1.

Same, but I do that with my PS4. There are still games on my PS3 that I want to play through (Demon Souls, for example).

Same. In fact, I probably wouldn't have bought a PS4 or Wii U to this day because of my PS3 and PC back log. My wife bought both of them for me as gifts.
