So you are saying the only way for Payton to have a work horse back is to cut the other ones?

I'm pretty sure Pierre's effect on that was negligible last year. He barely got the ball on the ground.

I think we can all agree this WAS a surprise and we are all trying to figure out why going forward.

Sad day for me. He was my favorite player. He never griped, always did his job and was a great screen back that was there when needed.

Hope he finds a job if he wants one

Give me a fricking break with this shite. You aren't a fan anyway if this is how you feel.

Its the NFL and you don't get attached to players. The fact is you have no fricking clue what the front office is doing and all you can do is speculate.

It sucks pt got cut but EVERYONE is open to the knife in the league.

Hopefully we get a competent replacement.

He will tear it up on another team. Probably the Falcons. I HATE seeing him not on the Saints.

Lay off the crack pipe for a second and realize peyton manning and Joe Montana didn't play their entire career for one team either. Troy polamalu has been told to retire or face the knife....it's life in today's NFL

But Pierre is a low cost utility player. Not a cap crusher or has been. He always got the hard extra yards. The Saints will not get the dollar for production contribution that Pierre brought to the offense. I just hope they cut him and sign him for less. Otherwise, frick this move.

I get that but I really thought that this was another year or two down the road. Just the same, I'll go ahead and leave this here... Thanks, PT23

No one doubts his production but this is just wrong. He's due 1.7M as a 2nd/3rd 30yr old RB. When you're 20M+ over the cap that's alot of money. You can draft a fresh RB out of college and pay him 500k

so now you're saying its about clearing money to sign another RB?

Or is about making room so it's ingrams backfield?

probably will sign ingram and draft an rb look mid-late rounds. Loved PT, but lets see what loomis has up his sleeve before we all go full rantard.

he'll say both, of course, in grand bonethug style. To save face.

Both. I NEVER said it was strictly one or the other. But if you look at the implications both money and play time wise, this is a move to get Ingram back(or another back if he bolts). We are clearing not just cash but also touches.

If you look at what Trip says (echoing what Payton has said in the past) these are football moves more so than cap moves. If they wanted PT they would find another way to clear room. Same with Moore and Harper last year. Same with Galette and Lofton this year.

If we want a guy we find a way to keep him. If we have another plan in mind we move on.

Every move is in varying degrees about the cap. But good teams don't make moves JUST because of the cap like you guys are saying we did here.

This was a move about football first. We could have cut several of players and saved more and all of them are worse bang for buck players.

Clearly that says we are going in a different direction at HB. More so because of football than the cap.

Right, like they cut Will Smith, Greer and Harper so they could find other players. Not because they saved $20mil

cough cough...and i quote Mickey Loomis

quote:

"These were not easy decisions to make," Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said in a statement. "Since we acquired them, Jabari, Roman, Will and Jonathan have all been excellent players on the field for us. Each of them were integral parts in turning this program around and winning a Super Bowl. They were a great example to our players as team leaders in the locker room as well. ...

"However ... these difficult moves allow us to position our team under the salary cap to move forward for 2014."
