I am an irrational Saints fan.

And thank you.

Why thank you. Please continue with your Brees bashing.

It's not bashing. His ego and selfishness cost his team keeping Nicks (the best OL on the team), because he had to be the highest paid QB in the league and have a buttload of it guaranteed up front.

He's a great QB, but his "team leadership" clearly lacks when it comes to putting the team first, and that isn't surprising, and I am a Saints fan.

If I'm defending, you're bashing. Fair?

ETA: As for Nicks, Drew did the Saints a solid on that one.

It isn't his fault the Saints gambled with him by not extending him before his contract was up. He played 2011 unprotected, played out of his mind, and gave his # from day 1. Saints folded to that # at the end. We could have saved money on both Graham and Brees by extending them early. The Saints FO said they aren't interested in restructuring his contract right now.

You also left out that Manning has made 53 million during the length of his contract so far compared to 46.2 for Brees.

The Saints front office cost us Nicks. I also love how you leave out that Nicks became the highest paid guard in the league...

Saints made an offer to Nicks.

You love to bash Brees

Brees is too selfish of a player honestly to do what Brady and Peyton did.

You have 9 superbowls between those 2 and 5 super bowl wins, and they are willing to take a paycut, yet Brees had to be highest paid in the league and supposedly won't budge

SO would you take a paycut in your current job so that your company could do better and maybe pay guys under you better?

if it would raise my stock and open up more money down the line for me I would consider it. I know after he won the first superbowl he got a lot more endorsements...and while he has some now his perception of being elite is changing. another Superbowl could bring in more than enough of the difference imho. Its a gamble though

@RapSheet: Even with Peyton Manning’s looming $4M pay cut to $15M in 2015, he can make up the money in incentives. Won’t change #Broncos FA approach.

That's just a restructure then

So he's still getting his full salary? (Assuming he meets the incentives, of course.)

You realize that is in no way true, right? The Saints offered him extensions and he is the one who refused because he wanted the leverage.

If I were making a significant amount and a player on a team where the money available to others is limited? Sure, of course I would.

Guards are pretty easy to find. Overpaying for them is not smart business

How? Nicks got hurt and contracted MRSA. It had nothing to do with his abilities or skills.

Umm.. are you serious?

Brees has already collected $61 Million from his contract. You realize he got $37 Million up front, right not including his base salaries for the last 3 seasons.

Uh, it is true. While they may have made an offer, the Saints decided to table the talks until after 2011. Brees and his team were frustrated by that

I shouldn't have said made, I was talking about their respective cap hits each year. Which is all that really matters in this discussion.

My point stands. You left out the prior years for a reason. Drew's was cap friendly
