There have been busts just as big. Just because Jamarcus held out to get paid doesnt make him a bigger bust. It just shows how stupid the Oakland front office was. At one point JRuss was the 3rd highest paid player in the nfl.
Also, posters on this board defend him because he was a great qb at lsu. He didnt embarrass the program while he was here,he played hurt, and he had a bunch of 4th quarter comebacks and wins which,IMO put him on the warrior pedestal like Hester.

Russell, Landry, Bowe, Davis all went first round in the 2007 draft

Yup a lot is on JR and maybe things would have been different had he gone to a stronger organization. Maybe.

I wasn't comparing only no. 1 overall draft picks - I didn't take the poster's comment to be that limited.
Regardless, Mandarich and Leaf were both no. 2 overall picks and both were massive busts. I think they're comparable to JR.

Why aren't you asking tensasparish to prove that JR is broke and about to go to prison?

Nah, I'm good.
Anything else?

the other will probably be there soon.
Why? Outside of the purple drank years back JR seems pretty low key these days.

[quote]Check out some of the other players who were drafted in the first round after the Raiders whiffed on Russell:Joe Thomas, Adrian Peterson, Patrick Willis, Marshawn Lynch, Darrelle Revis, Dwayne Bowe, Jon Beason, Joe Staley and Greg Olsen. Boy did the Raiders screw that up! I know this is somewhat off topic, but only like two or three of those guys were worthy of being drafted #1 overall.

What the heck is your criteria. 7 of them have been pro-bowlers.

Funny how JR gets dubbed biggest bust ever and yet the Raiders have sucked horribly without him. You could've put Peyton manning on that team and they still would've been horrible.

JRuss's bust ranking is because he had an agent that got him one of the biggest deals in nfl history ( at that point ). No expect JRuss to be the next great qb. If there weren't a new rookie pay scale, id say Trent Richardson is just as big of a bust. He was supposed to be the next Adrian Peterson. the scouts didnt have a weakness for him. Brian Boz was a huge bust too. Jamarcus' contract puts him above most

Imagine Russell with about half of the film/camp/practice drive of Marinovich (daddy Marinovich driving his son into the ground with all that is probably why his story turned out that way). Or Russell adopted and raised by Archie. GOAT hypothetical?
Eta: and change the situation. Oakland takes him, contract gets signed (same one eventually signed) early on, he gets into camp on time, learns the playbook, played backup at least half the season, he has the same OC 4 years in a row... Who knows
