In the few games he's had I've seen significant growth in his play.

The tards that were hammering him earlier.. just wow.

Nobody was hammering the kid. It was pointed out that there would be growing pains and he probably isn't ready for SEC play at this point.

Besides, with suh-vik crushing the ball and throwing lasers behind the plate we can afford to bring Pap along slowly.

Freshman year for catchers is really hard. They have to learn so damn much. You can tell he's got talent though.

Agree %100.

Can't wait for next year after he has a full college season and a summer league under his belt.

I was a pap homer early on and had to cool off. He looked bad trying to handle Lange's offspeed. And Scivicque was throwing people out left and right. He has definitely settled down and I'm mostly thankful for the double headers because it has forced him to play and get comfortable. He's going to be really good. If Scivicque gets hurt, I won't be worried at all.

Anyone who played like he did in the second BC game--Gibbs, Matt Heath, Brad Cresse, God Himself--would have taken criticism and rightfully so. He went 0-3, allowed 3 stolen bases, dropped two called third strikes, failed to hold on to a tip in the fourth that would have been another strikeout for Lange. It wasn't his best game to say the least. The criticism was warranted. He has rebounded nicely.

The fourth inning from the box score:

quote:

Boston College 5th - Adams, Jo struck out swinging, reached first on a wild pitch (1-2). Adams, Jo stole second. Sauter, S singled up the middle, RBI (1-1); Adams, Jo scored. Palomaki, J singled to third base, bunt (0-0); Sauter, S advanced to second. Hernandez, G walked (3-2); Palomaki, J advanced to second; Sauter, S advanced to third. Butera, B walked, RBI (3-2); Hernandez, G advanced to second; Palomaki, J advanced to third; Sauter, S scored. Cronin, J struck out swinging (2-2). Shaw, C singled to right field, 2 RBI (1-0); Butera, B advanced to third; Hernandez, G scored; Palomaki, J scored. Strem, M grounded into double play ss to 1b (0-0); Shaw, C out on the play. 4 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 1 LOB.

Woof.

So his first college game as a true freshman?

Nice.

He's fine, that performance particularly in the fourth inning won't ever cut it at LSU. First start or 50th you can't not catch easy third strikes and let that guy steal on you then come around to score. It was not a good effort. He's gotten better. That said, was not good enough no matter how many starts he had. Doesn't mean you cut him or never play him, but there was reason to criticize.

I've been surprised by how well Scivicque has played and how "not well" Pap has played. I watched them both in the spring and the fall and Pap was far superior to Scivicque defensively.

I'm glad I was wrong and Sciv has been good defensively allowing him to be in the lineup everyday and giving Pap some time to acclimate.

I'm honestly shocked at Kade's defense this season. We all knew how good he could be/was offensively....it's definitely making it easier to transition to Paps next season and him still getting some spot starts and pinch play.

Very, very nice surprise. He's really elevated his game. If that continues, he's gonna get looks come the MLB draft.

As a former catcher I understand why he is having a little trouble with block balls this year. How many 95 mph balls you think he had to block until getting to college? Lol.. Some people on here are so quick to judge highly touted freshman before they have time to adjust. I agree 100% he will be a great one. He has an effortless swing and on effortless cannon for an arm. I think he will be LSU's next All-American catcher.

What he experienced that first game is just something you can't get anywhere but in the game.

He can catch Lange all day in the bullpen and it's just not the same as that first live action.
