While playing the old "innertube rodeo" game I've been slung skipping across the water like a smooth stone across a pond...but still couldn't have been doing more than 40 or 50 at most. I cannot imagine what a fall at 135 would be like...if your head catches and your body keeps going it would snap your neck like a twig.

It's called water ski racing, the pros routinely do 100+ mph. The skis they use are so thick that they basically glide on top of the water. When they make a turn or 'cut' at that speed they can glide for 3-400 yards. Its pretty unreal watching someone travel that far on skis after letting go of the handle.
This is one of the most famous crashes, from back in '83 (SFW). The staff at Bennett's still talk about the size of this guys balls:

Yeah they are crazy. You have to go like 55+ from what I remember to barefoot. At those higher speeds they may wear booties but I do remember them saying they did not really enjoy skiing that fast bc the fall hurts a lot.

This formula will give you your estimated speed in MPH. For example, if you weigh 200 lbs, then you would divide by ten, giving you 20, then add 20, and you get 40 mph as your barefooting speed.
They even have it on ESPN sometimes in the summer when it is slow. It is called something like Powerboat skiing. The race i saw they start in Miami race around one of the keys and back.

Holy crap, Bennett's is still open? I used to ski there in the late '80s. Thought I was going to kill myself on that jump ramp! Almost got beat up by some bull dyke jumper for using her tape.

That sounds like sherry sloan haha, LSU graduate and big time competitor in women's collegiate jumping. Yep Bennett's is open and thriving, LSU Water Ski and Wake are only a small part of the business these days. Jay's internationally known

That's her, I just didn't want to say her name. For years after that I'd watch women's jump on ESPN and hope she'd bust her arse.
