TFFC is headquarters for the Toyota ShareLunker Program, which encourages anglers who have caught 13-pound-plus largemouth bass to lend or donate the fish to TPWD for spawning purposes.

Program Rules

Benefits of Participation

At the end of spawning season, the ShareLunker will be returned to the angler for live release, or the angler may donate it permanently to the program. Either way, the angler receives a fiberglass replica of the catch made by Lake Fork Taxidermy, ShareLunker clothing, and recognition at an annual awards banquet held at TFFC. In addition, the Texas resident catching the largest entry of the season is awarded a lifetime fishing license.

A great program that has had sponsorship from the beginning, I think Coke-Cola, or maybe Budweiser sponsored before Toyota.

Louisiana needs to get on board with this program. LDWF could start the program with 11lbs or more, not the 13lbs Texas uses.

I agree. Give people more incentive over the whole state(not just toledo) to release these big fish back to where they were caught.

One thing I have to give credit to Texas for is their management freshwater fisheries.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but assuming that everyone in the state wants their fisheries managed the way Texas does or that we have the size fish to make a similar program worthwhile (even for 11# fish), is being a little naIve. The mindset of the average person bass fishing in LA is significantly different than in TX and as such the states resources should primarily be focused on managing in a way that is most preferred by the constituents, as long as the fisheries remain healthy. Using public funds for a similar share lunker program would take away from other efforts LaWLF can pursue.

Now if you could get someone to sponsor it, I'm all for it.

I doubt even your most hardcore meat guy would oppose spending funding on a program like this. Seems like it's a win/win situation. But sponsorship would obviously be better, and I think it would be easy to find someone to sponsor something like this.

We share a border with Texas through Caddo Lake too. It's eligible.

In fact about 4 years ago someone caught a 16. Share a lunker went into effect and the next year someone caught her again tagged. She had lost a few ounces actually over the year.

Both guys got replicas... so that was cool to see it work.

Both of those guys should have weighed her in in LA. They would have gotten a free replica through Bass Life and would have set a new state record.

Shouldn't be a problem to get that. I think it would be cool if the Duck Dynasty guys got behind this, rallied others sponsors.

I say that because I really do think those guys would positively influence multiple sponsors getting on board with the idea.

From my time in Texas, it seemed like guys were coming in from other states to try to land the Lunker.

The most recent ShareLunker in TX died after a couple of days from an infection caused by a broken jaw. It was caught at La Perla Ranch which is a really interesting place. It costs about $2000 per day to fish there.

It set the Lake record for the Texas side.

I love the ShareLunker program and you can't deny it produces results.
I wish Arkansas would get on board with something like this. Way too many of our fisheries underperform when they could be WAAAAAY better.
