Yeh 2013 is when they went and updated their transmission and other components. I would go with a 2013 or newer model as well.

Yep. I rode in a 12 model not long ago and you can tell the difference between it an the 13.

Depends on how many miles/year you put on it and how hard on a truck you are. If you put 10k/year, sure.

I sure as hell hopes it last 100k Playing the percentages with new trucks these days he should be able to get it to 150k with no major issues. But the percentages dont always hold up

consider it insurance.....you may not need it but it's good to have in case you do.

That's a ton of miles on a 3 year-old truck.

I live 2 minutes from the highway and it takes about 20 mins on the highway to get to work. I usually work 6 days a week. Barely use it other than go to work. Don't have anything to tow around.

Don't be a douche. Some people don't need 4x4 or have small peens to justify so why pay extra cost and insurance for something they have no use for?

I wouldn't get a 2 wheel drive but I use mine. Half the people that have 4x4s have probably never even used it.

Word.

I went with a 2wd to be able to go for a 2013 silverado LTZ when it came out brand new. 2 years later, it's still running fine and looking as shiny and new as the day I picked it up.

Not actual rig, but looks like this.

Wise words stout. The thought that you just have to have 4x4 on a truck is ridiculous. A lot of people just won't use it and a locking rear end will get you out of most things you'll encounter. It's not a cheap option.

Depends on where you are driving it.

All Interstate miles using smooth roads? You're ok.

Rough Back roads that beat the shite out of a vehicle? You're not ok.

Agreed, I just meant that the miles are well above accepted standards of 12K per year. OP should see a discount.

BTW, I am looking for a cheap vehicle (<$5K) for a LSU student who lost his vehicle to a drunk driver (not him)..

Any help from OT would be appreciated.

Have a 2011. Love mine. It's my third Ram going back to 1998. Every time I shop around and every time I end up with a ram. It's a good truck.

standard reduction in price for high miles.

Truck should have 36-38, that would be "normal" miles.
