John Bollinger (he of the PER fame) said a basketball player peaks at 28 and rarely gets better after that, except for a few flashes or brilliance here and there. LeBron turned 30 last December.

Of course he is.

At his best, he's still the league's best player though, by a wide margin too.

Hakeem

And yes, LeBron is on the decline, but he will still be the best player on the planet for a few more years. When your peak is so incredible, the beginning of the decline is still incredible.

This is crazy... one regular season game against a good team and the talk today is all about LeBron's performance.

Was this really that big of a game?

I mean, to me it was, because I'm a Rockets fan and wanted Harden to do well against LeBron because he's in the MVP race and Cleveland has been dominant lately.

But this one game is a big national story today. And it was an awesome game but it's not like there was any build up to it or hype behind it.

A lot of times it takes a big moment for people to wake up about the reality of a situation. LeBron's performance yesterday had nothing to do with a decline. He's not going to become a 20% free throw shooter as part of the decline.

But it did casual observers to pick their heads up. I personally think LeBron is beginning the slow decline, but yesterday had nothing to do with that.

he's arguably the MVP this year. Maybe he's declining a little but he's still the best player in the L

Yes. He's not as explosive as he used to be.

I'm not mad.

I'm just wondering why that game is a national story today.

Age isn't as important as minutes. I've been arguing for years that we will see him decline at a younger age because of the insane usage he hasn't gotten. Luckily for the Cavs, Lebron's downside is better than 99% of NBA players peak.

Lebron already is 63rd in NBA history in minutes played(reg season) and 17th in playoff minutes

Here is the top 30 in active minutes for reference(non playoff)

1. Kevin Garnett 49798
2. Kobe Bryant 46774
3. Ray Allen 46344
4. Tim Duncan 45203
5. Dirk Nowitzki 44293
6. Paul Pierce 43940
7. Shawn Marion 39995
8. Vince Carter 39970
9. Andre Miller 39299
10. Jason Terry 38134
11. Steve Nash 38069
12. Joe Johnson 37650
13. Antawn Jamison 37638
14. LeBron James 35096
15. Elton Brand 34454
16. Pau Gasol 34178
17. Rashard Lewis 33541
18. Lamar Odom 32131
19. Tony Parker 31977
20. Jamal Crawford 31739
21. Richard Jefferson 30837
22. Metta World Peace 30690
23. Carmelo Anthony 30266
24. Chris Bosh 30158
25. Tayshaun Prince 29618
26. Andre Iguodala 29499
27. Jason Richardson 28944
28. Dwight Howard 28618
29. Zach Randolph 28601
30. Al Harrington 28009

MJ played nearly 40 mpg for 13 seasons. Led the league in scoring through his age 34 season playing almost 40 a night before he walked away for a few years

This thread reminds me of the "is brady done?" thread

I believe going back to Cleveland was him signaling he doesn't care about chasing Jordan. I think he'll be happy to get 1 ring for Cleveland and just rack up stats.

It's ridiculous. Before last night, the talk was about how Lebron was back in the MVP race with how dominant he's been lately.

I'm interested to see if LBJ reinvents his game as he ages and his ungodly athleticism deteriorates. Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant both changed how they played the game as they entered their early 30's. Neither played above the rim like they once did. Both seemed to make their already fantastic post games even better.

Seeing Lebron change his game when he can no longer out-athlete everyone else or attack the basket like a raging bull will be very something to see.

When he finished his age 34 season he had ~36,000 minutes, the same LBJ will have at the end of this season.

Lebron has peaked. There is no doubt about it. It's ok, we aren't saying he still isn't one of the best players in the leauge.

He does have the luxory of transferring from the perimeter to inside where he can lose a step but still be way more athletic than anyone down low.
