Thx. I lift in the morning around 6 am due to work and life obligations. Trying to get more active but it is hard sometimes with an under 2 yr old that doesn't always sleep good.

Kind of a side track but I'm getting back into the gym after a year off and was starting with stronglifts while following an IIFYM diet plan. Would I get better results with the 5/3/1 program or will the difference be negligible over then next 8-12 weeks?

Yea weekly breakdown is every three pages.
My buddy struggles with form on snatch, so i started him very light. If you finish the program you end up with a 225lbs snatch for 2 reps after a year which isnt bad at all.
The program starts off with a little aggressive on adding weight but quickly changes to where by the end you are only adding a pound or two per session. But thoae pounds add up quickly.
I plan to run the program after my surgery and i run stronglifts with powercleans first.

Stick with stronglifts until the squat is no longer making progress. Then switch to greyskull, madcow or 5/3/1. Sl is going to be the fastest progression.

Has anybody bought or made a set of the really light weights to use when progression slows so that you can keep adding weight?

just tie rubber bands around outside of the bar to add small weight

If I can power snatch 155-165, what weight can I start with?

That's what I'm going to go with. Tried some yesterday and loved them.
Ryno, as far as braces i have no idea. I only have wrist wraps for heavy bench days but i don't wear wraps or belts besides that.

ok, I'll look around and try different ones. I also need to get some wrist wraps. You don't wear a belt at all when squatting heavy? I've never tried one but the most i have squatted is like 265

Never have. Couldn't really tell you why. Just haven't.

start with 50% on olympic lifts, about about 60% on others.
And to thise asking about small plates, google fractional plates.

Thanks. I'll look into 2x per day.
Crossfit session and a Greyskull or Sheiko barbell session.
I really need my Oly lifts to come up.

I'm not very strong so I don't lift very heavy, but when I was squatting and not doing dead lifts I would use a belt for my heavier sets, 225 and up. I squat a little heavier now than I did then and I find I don't really need it anymore since doing dead lifts, back strength is up. If your back bothers you when squatting the belt definitely seems to help (I fractured a vertebra when I was 15 and have had trouble with it ever since).

I always thought the belt was more to prevent hernias .
Posted on 3/5/15 at 5:48 pm to Tiger Ryno
I just needed it for back support. Mostly because I was an idiot not hitting my back hard enough with other stuff.
I have heard that before, but without looking up anything I'm gonna say that anatomically I don't see how it would prevent a hernia, at least not an inguinal hernia.

belts are to help with stabilty. Same thing as holding in a large breath while lifting. I like them for heavy sets only.
Posted on 3/5/15 at 11:22 pm to Tiger Ryno
Nah. Belts help with stability and helps you lift more.

Magnus ver Magnusson
Dude won the world's strongest man 4x and was 2nd 2x at a weight 120lbs less than Zydrunas.

Magnus was awesome but longevity and the amount of 1,2,3 place that he's earned in the 10-12 years is a hell of an accomplishment. We're talking the wsm, ifsa world strongest man, Arnold classic, etc.

completed Bench day of week three of cycle 1 on Wendlers 5.3.1. this was the actual 5.3.1+ day. I'm feeling a lot stronger in less that three weeks on this program. weights are just feeling lighter. I'm looking forward to the deload week. I now understand why its in the program. I'm loving this program. I can only imagine how much stronger I'll be in 3 months, 6 months.
