So after the first three series how are we feeling about the new baseball?

I for one am loving it.

Seems like we've finally found the balance that College baseball has desperately needed.

I'll wait to pass judgement, after a whole season and facing better pitching. But it looks good so far.

While that was fun I don't particularly believe that 20+ runs per game is good for college baseball.

We needed some balance desperately and I think we've finally gotten it.

You're not going to get any cheap homeruns but if a pitcher makes a mistake he will be punished for it and if a hitter gets all of a ball he will be rewarded for it.

That's good enough for me.

It's a nice improvement, I still miss the old days, but I also realize 5'8 150 pound guys shouldn't be knocking 10-15 HRs in 60 games either.

That's all I ever wanted, really. I don't like seeing pop flies carry out of the ballpark but at the same time, if a pitcher hangs a curve, he should pay for it. Now if we can just get them to move the fences in a little bit at TD Ameritrade, we'll be all set.

i still think we could dial the bats back to somewhere between the 2010 bats and the dead bats we have now.

that coupled with the new balls could be more exciting.

Ball is carrying more, no question
I think you will see better results as well once the weather warms up

Doesn't really matter when you get to Omaha, will have to adjust your game for that park which will result back to small ball

Exactly. Unfortunately I agree with you that the balls alone won't be enough in Omaha. We'll be looking at another boring World Series this year

NCAA stats won't update until tomorrow...

2014 thru 3/2: 0.38 HR/gm

2015 thru 2/26: 0.55 HR/gm

45% increase in HRs/game

eta: 2015 thru 3/1: 0.49 HR/gm

yea, Omaha screwed up a good thing they had at Rosenblatt. they need to rectify it so the games will be more fun. college baseball is growing in popularity and to sustain the gains they need to reach tdhe more casual fan. stifleing the offense does not make sense.

This. We are not a power hitting team. Nothing wrong with that, but that is not how Mainieri built us.

Agreed
LSU will have to recruit some better power hitters from the prep ranks

You still need the speed in the OF but you need someone that can mash at 1B and DH

Percentage change is substantial, but it's still only 1 home run every 2 games.

Another relevant stat (maybe the most relevant) is runs scored. What's that look like so far this year?

That's true and while I don't think home runs are the only thing that make the game exciting, it infuriates me to see a pitcher throw a curveball up in the zone, the batter barrel it up and then have it caught on the warning track....in the College Frickin World Series.

It looks like it is an improvement, both for batters and pitchers. I haven't heard of any pitchers with blister problems so far and it seems that there have been more extra base hits than in prior years.
