Curious why you think that. My feeling was Ecko didn't fear the "smoke" so I could see him eventually doing its bidding. Ben on the other hand seemed to be searching for someone to look up to bc of how shitty his dad was.
Side note, a documentary on all of the paternal angles in Lost would be a something I would watch.

Did any TV character get punched as much as Ben?
On the top of my head on the number of times he's gotten beaten:
1) Got the dog crap beat out of him by Sayid.
2) Hit in the face by Sawyer
3) Beaten repeatably by Jack
4) Elbowed in the face by Rousseau
5) Beaten by Sawyer
6) Beaten by Sawyer again
7) Slugged repeatably by Desmond
8) Slugged by Desmond again
9) Elbowed by Sawyer
10) With an oar by Sun
11) Hit in the face by Keamy
12) Hit in the back of the head by Locke
13) Physically beaten by his father
14) Shot by Rousseau with a crossbow
15) Shot by Sayid as a child
Think only Jack Bauer can compare to Ben's resume.

I'm still not sure how MIB was allowed to kill Eko but not the others even though he was a candidate. Feel like that was probably just a plot hole.

Well, there were certainly a few of those....

I think the MIB knew that he could get Eko to do his bidding, since he was a brutal man deep down who will do as he's told in the name of faith. MiB already knew Locke's long term purpose, but MIB needed a brutal enforcer of some kind (a role Sayid would later take part in). When Eko refused to be subordinate to MiB, then he killed him knowing he was useless to him.
And that flashback was done after Eko was killed off of the show. I think from the show's perspective, MiB always knew he'd manipulate Ben into killing Jacob, but I'm not sure that was the creators full plan all along.

Eko was not a candidate.

sort of spoilers for TWD below
I think him and Rick coming to a resolution would have been better. Let Lori die, that way Rick and Shane can move forward with running shite. Shane+Rick+Daryl=Governor dead much earlier

I disagree with this. Not sure of his role in the comics, but i thought the timing and how we went away was perfect. really i think someone should have killed him sooner

Well, shite. He could have been crossed off earlier like Kate was.

Jesus, you have a picture of him in your thumbnail image AND signature image. You really liked that guy.
The show was pretty damn awesome as it was. The finale was unexpectedly amazing. Jason Sudeikis guest stars on a lot of tv shows, so I don't think there was ever really any shot of him continuing with the show past a couple episodes.

No. Jimmy Darmody's character and story arc had reached an end. There was nothing more for this character and keeping him around would have been disingenuous to the show. He had died on the battlefields of WW1. Jimmy was dead inside and just wanted to be put out of his misery. He knew he was going to die at that meeting yet went willingly to his death. Like Chalky he went out on his own terms, like a boss.
His death also served to move Nucky's character along. The underworld was changing and there was no longer room for the crooked politician type, the ones that blurred the lines between good/bad guys, there was no such thing as a half a gangster. It was the theme of the entire season, that Nucky would have to go all in. Now, you can argue the problem was the writers in subsequent years didn't follow through on this and kept Nucky waffling on whether he should be a good guy or a bad guy. In the final season they did a good job of fleshing out Nuck's character by using the flashbacks, you really got an idea of why this guy ticked the way he did. Again, problem is they wasted years giving us Nucky the enigma.
although i wish they didn't kill him off, you are absolutely correct. kind of like when tony killed chris in sopranos, he basically put him out of his misery. I just enjoyed darmody's character so much i wish they could have written it a little differently to have him last longer.
