There comes that time when buying new furniture, near the end of the transaction, where they show you the "examples" of treated vs. non-treated fabric and you need to make the choice whether to add this for $150-200, or abstain.

I'm sure some may say make that choice relative to the amount of purchase you are making and the use of the piece of furniture as well as other factors - pets, young kids, etc.

Bottom line, does this stuff work? Do they honor the warranty? Is the fabric treated anyway? I read it cost them ~$5 to treat a sofa.

I choose to abstain with no young children, no pets on sofa and expecting a 7-8 year life of daily use.

You'll forget about it and not use it. They count on that.

This, like all insurance, is a gamble. I prefer to be as self insured as possible.

Don't do it.

We just bought a sectional and declined. I'll treat it myself.

buy a bunch of these and do it yourself. isn't this what they will do? they should disclose the actual "protection."

Yes; that was an idea I had to do it myself with scotch guard. Think I'll pick up a few cans before delivery.

$150-200 seems like a steep markup for some ScotchGard. We had it added to a couch we bought 10 years ago. Couch still looks great. But I think we paid $20. They had a compressor set up with a sprayer, and sprayed the whole thing right in front of us before loading it into our truck. Wrapped it in plastic after the spray, and told us to let it completely dry once we unwrapped it at the house. We didn't have kids at the time, but a couple of pets. Now my girl is 7 and my son is almost 2. It has held up really well. Not bad for a $500 cloth couch. Of course our other furniture is leather, so no issues there.
