Yes... Having Damian Jones would of been another player that would undoubtedly have bolstered frontcourt depth to an extent we could consider ourselves legitimate title contenders....

Add in a another decent small forward at about 6'6 or above and there is no doubt in my mind we are talking about maybe a top 3 seeded team and grandeurs of the beginnings of an annual tournament run for a championship at least the next 2-3 years and no one would think otherwise....

If only we could of had Johnny one year earlier, we would of had the probability of landing a prosepctive combination of Victor, Gathers, Damian Jones, and a quality small forward to compliment what we have now...

Our bench would be solid and depth would not be an issue, allowing what he probably would implement more consistently like last year, the full court press defense...

But with that said, we still can make noise in the big Dance, if we play our best basketball of the year and somehow get safe and reliable production from Gray....

LSU going dancing and the tournament is always better to watch and more gut wrenching to endure when we are in it and believe we have a puncher's chance. NOBODY came close, I guess TA&M, to beating Kentucky, like us... That's the penultimate out there along with Duke.
Other teams won't be eager to play us when they begin to game plan for us and realize we got 3 pros...

Just beat Tennessee right now. We can worry about NCAA seeding after we play in the SECT.

My biggest worry about our team now is fundamentally poor inside defense and blocking out.

Looking at the teams in the East, in a perfect world, I feel I would favor LSU over any other team, sans Virginia, but I would love our chances to beat them as a #1 seed over say Kentucky, Arizona or Duke...

Okafor would tee off on LSU in the post, it would be bad. Virginia is beatable because they play such a low-scoring type of game...but they've lost 1 game all year and that was to Duke. Let's not just ignore some of our miserable losses.

I love the amount of hate Johnny Jones gets. One week he's awful and we lost because of him, the next we have NBA players and we despite him. K

However, other than the above-mentioned teams, we can play and almost expect to beat anybody else out there, if those previously mentioned drawbacks are minimized significantly....

Love the optimism, but we've beaten 2 tournament teams in a power conference. And now Ole Miss may not even make it if they lose a couple of more games which is possible. We have yet to prove we are world beaters

No we don't

Just wondering how old you are. Because you clearly don't remember that well. The '06 team would destroy this team...destroy. I love when people want to compare, but it just isn't close. I really have no other way to say that.

Do you give credit for every one of Johnny's coaching good moments as well?

lmao...I always love these type of quotes. Yep, if we had scored more points than the other team, we most certainly could have won all our games. If we had better coaching....if we had better guard play at time...if we shot free throws better at times...if, if, if.....lol

Yay we got close!! At home!! In front of a record crowd!! A&M and Ole Miss both took UK to overtime, which is closer than almost winning.

And when you say "We got 3 NBA players, that means NEXT year in the NBA. That doesn't mean eventually, that means right now. TQ right now could not come close to playing in the NBA. Also, what part of Jordan Mickey the last several games have been NBA ready? The part where he 0/6 with 4 turnovers and 3 rebounds in the 1st half against Ole Miss? Or basically did the same thing against A&M but even worse.

Right now, LSU Has maybe one player that will be on an NBA roster right now. Even then it's a maybe. Tim Quarterman is not going anywhere right now, so he should not even be listed as an NBA player. That's like saying the '04-'05 team had 4 NBA players because they had Bass, Davis, Tyrus, and Temple. But Tyrus and Temple didn't even play

1. LSU can be bounced in the round of 68 in the 11-11 game, or get to the final four.

2. no bench. 6 guys

3. unmentioned in the OP is guard play that falls short of the standards of NCAA tournament play in the final minutes of games.
Its the worst thing about the team. That spells doom in a close game. Watch the last couple of minutes of the Kentucky game to see what I mean.

a real point guard would be sufficient. would have beat Kentucky.

LSU can beat Virginia and lose to Virginia A&M - that's just the nature of this team.

However, this is actually one of the most competitive teams I can ever remember at LSU. Not one team has beat us by more than single digits this year so far (which is quite an accomplishment). There are only maybe four other teams this year that can say that. Old Dominion beat us by 9 early in the season, but our 8 losses are by an average of 5 points. So whoever LSU plays, they may win or they may lose, but it will be a game. That's real progress, so I'll take it.

Sweet Sixteen if we somehow don't pull a Georgetown and get knocked out round 1.

No question. Two years LSU started a transplanted tuba player from the band at center and a senior graduate transfer at guard. The program is gaining stability and is climbing back into the national spotlight.

True, because if they were to lose to Tennessee, Arky and go 0-1 in the SEC Tourney, they would probably get left out.

I dunno. We could lose in the first round, or we could make a deep run.

You do have to remember, we matched up well with Kentucky, and that's the overwhelming #1 overall seed. If Martin and Mickey remain consistent, and Quarterman plays at the level he did vs Ole Miss, this team can beat anyone. We have a much higher potential than most college teams.

Problem is, we also have the real-world ability to lose to anyone. You also have to worry about playing a fast tempo and returning in 2 days; with the depth issue we would be in trouble.

The 09 team lost in the 2nd round. You're thinking about the 06 team.

Got that horrible draw for a team that won the SEC by a couple of games. Did give UNC their most competition enroute to their NC.
Would much rather the team stay a 10 seed than move up only to 8 or 9. The truth is, they beat UT on Wed and probably do move up to 8 or 9 seed. Then you have to hope they beat Ark and at least one game in the SECT to possibly move up to a 7. When you think about all 8 of their losses being single digits, anything's possible over the next couple of weeks.

You never know what will elevate a player to the NBA level while another player with a more glittering college career doesn't make it or has a short lived career. For instance who would have believed that Garret Temple would still be in the league, Tyrus Thomsas out of the league and Tasmin Mitchell never making a roster.

This team really can beat anybody ....but they can lose to anybody too. That being said we would be a very dangerous 9-10 seed. Probably the most dangerous. No enough depth for final four run but I could easlily see this as top 16 team if they get good bracket and continue to play well.

Important to get in and get experience for next year and hopefully wet the appetite for some of these guys to hang around one more year

Non-issue. This team played two uptempo games with one day in between during first week of Dec. Coincidently, that 3 day stretch is probably the biggest reason this team is in good shape to make the tournament
