And the people they are hiring are extremely experienced and qualified pilots (hopefully I'll be one of them) that have been flying for smaller airlines for years, not just some dude off the street that they have to teach how fly.
Yep. My brother just got hired by United. Retired F-16 pilot. Specialist in upset recovery. Tokyo on stand-by here I come.

They used to work for the airlines, now they are contracted out so the majors can save money. Look at the recent cluster in Denver for United, that's all because they switched contractors for ground services to the lowest bidder that has no idea what they are doing. That's why the gates are never ready for the arrivals and the bags aren't making their transfers.
I fly United often and pass through Denver and can confirm. It's always a clusterfrick.
Had one flight where at departure time there wasn't a plane at the gate (app showed that plane had arrived the night prior), then when they did pull a plane up to the gate, they realized that they pulled up the wrong plane. The gate agent then said that the incorrect plane that was at our gate was having mechanical issues and had to wait to be towed out of the way so that our correct plane could pull in. We left about 3 hours late. Get to my destination, then the Captain comes on and says he stopped about a foot short of the gate and we had to wait to be taxied again.
United's stated reason for the late departure? Weather.

United is terrible unless you're a mileage plus member like me.

I am as well, and it only slightly lessens the blow.

Flying today just sucks and will suck forever, no matter what airline you fly.
I've been a Delta loyalist and I have noticed that they seem to be improving lately. They still suck....they just suck less than they have in the past.
Continental wasn't bad before the merger. Northwest and Delta should not have been allowed to merge. Neither should United and Continental.....granted that's just my opinion.
I have had mostly good experiences lately with Delta and Southwest.

Southwest doesn't fly to places I go. You can't connect to many overseas flights through southwest.

United is pretty terrible. I don't think I've EVER had a successful (meaning no problems at all) flight with them.

It helps with boarding and seat selection. But upgrades for even Platinum flyers have dwindled greatly over the past 3 years. Regardless of status their customer service and on time record sucks.

United gate agent in Houston found a set of keys I dropped. Got my informal name off my gym membership tag. It's a nickname. Figured out my formal name, found me at my connecting gate, and brought me my keys. That's good service.

Hell, I'm a premier 1K member and don't get the upgrade often.

I don't know about the pilot but this Dreamliner is the nicest domestic plane I've been on
Posted on 2/28/15 at 3:46 pm to yellowfin
Yes it is. Flew first on a Dreamliner a couple days ago, and it is great.

Just his area of special expertise that he is known for teaching. I'm sure to a pilot is not out of the ordinary, but being a layman it makes me feel extra secure when I fly with him.

OP is a dumbass and knows nothing about the industry.
