Neither, 80" Samsung or nuttin!
I would get the non smart TV and get a streaming device i.e. Fire TV, Chromecast, etc. I have a smart TV that is 4 yrs old and am now having problems with the apps.

Smart TV's are crap IMO. The features are almost always poorly implemented and are an afterthought in the design of the television. You're better off getting a "dumb" TV with a good picture and picking out some type of appliance (Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Ouya, Apple TV, etc) that has more focus on the streaming apps and stuff.

Without any other additional information about the two panels, LG is generally preferred. And as stated above, Smart TV functionality is usually pretty shitty and you're better off purchasing a streaming stick/box to add to a good quality "dumb" TV.

Can you even buy a dumb TV now?

Just bought 70 TVs for a control center. Go with LG first, Samsung second. Go with Appliance grade products if you can afford it--they'll hold up longer. Sonys have beautiful pictures, but overpriced. Vizios end up with power supply problems. Smart TV? Up to you, but I say yes. Since the firmware in TVs are updatable now, the feature set should catch up. Am seeing the UHD (4K) TVs now in Walmart, so they're coming in. DON'T BUY!! unless you are watching Blu Ray all the time. It's 4K sure, but there's no 4K source material out there yet to feed into it.

You CAN buy dumb TVs, but the price break won't hold up as the features come rolling in.

I bought my TV last May and actually had a tough time finding one I liked. Finally ended up finding a 65" Sharp for ~$950 but it was a chore and a "last year's model".

I tend to judge a TV by its picture. Judge from your normal viewing distance and see what "looks" best. Keep in mind that the TVs on display are likely not at their best display - they can be optimized. But if a TV has that 'look,' I go with it. LG did that for me, and Samsung was right on its heels. Also - as for size - I tend to again find the size that 'looks' right.. Then go 1 size bigger. The 70 LGs that I bought for the Control Center are still rolling along, on 24/7 and look as good as the day I turned them on.

I think that by middle of this year, the UHD (4K) sets will be the rage, and the price on the HD sets will drop to an acceptable range.
