I was always under the impression that Quakers were a fairly significant denominational group, but it turns out only 86,000 of our Quaker Brethren exist in America. I thought there were at least as many Quakers in Pennsylvania as there are Mormons in Utah but I guess not.
Talk about an extremely famous group in US history/north American history fading into virtually nothing. Jeez.
Anyone on the OT know one of these 86,000 members of the society of friends?

They were very influential in early American history. I guess the last significant one in politics was Nixon, and he fell about as far from the tree as you can get. You'll still find a lot of them active in liberal social justice causes. A dirty word around here, but whatever.
I don't know any Quakers personally, but the sister of a childhood friend is a Unitarian-Universalist minister. She's a Cajun from Lake Charles who pastors a church in Massachusetts

Thank you, that's very interesting.
