Sorry honey, that eagle just swooped down and flew away with Fluffy, there was nothing I could do. Lets get a big dog that is eagle proof...

I'm trying to get our dog to drop some pounds. Just can't see a raptor getting him airborne now.

FTR, I thought bald eagles only ate fish and carrion.

We had one hang out all day a couple weeks back at Lexington Estates off Nicholson in BR. We were excavating and filling a large ditch. I guess he was hanging out looking for an easy rodent meal as they exited the ditch. He would be within 30-50 yards of the equipment at times.

speaking of, we have a landowner we work with that put a game camera on his gut pile during deer season and got a couple really good pictures of an eagle feeding

My wife's family has a camp on Head of Island. I've seen a few while at the camp and a couple around New River before the lake.

The number of nesting pairs in Louisiana now has surpassed 350.

I'm actually surprised that its only this many. As often as I see them when I'm at home, I figured they were freakin' everywhere.

That map for Golden Eagles is mostly right but a few show up every winter on the Georgia barrier islands. I saw one on Sapelo a few year back (and I know the difference from an immature Bald). A UGA biologist on the island confirmed it. A few also show up in the Smokies in Tennessee; and vagrants can show up in the weirdest places. They do wander out of their expected range more than most species.

That said, when a Golden Eagle is reported outside of the usual range more often than not it is an immature Bald Eagle and the person reporting it wasn't familiar enough. They can look very similar.

We have them, or at least a pair here in the neighborhood in Mandeville. Pretty badass as I see them flyover when I jog. Sometimes they are literally 30 ft. off the ground. They are some big arse birds!

Last week I had to drive down to Cut Off everyday for work. I saw two in a recently burned cane field along Hwy 308. The next day in the same place I saw one in the cane field. Was a little north of Valentine.

Sorry for hijack, but the land owner, on 308, with all the black wrought iron fence with the long-horn cattle, gazelles, burros and now zebras, is he trying to open his own exotic animal farm.

I think I just saw a nest. South side of i-10, as you cross the Peal River into Louisiana from Mississippi there is a power line and a large nest on top of the tower...

There is also a nest east of South Farm access ramp in the fields...
