Let's talk attendance struggles for some MLB teams (and relocation)

Let's start at the bottom:
TB-----Horrible stadium, but they're fricking stuck. Contraction could be a real possibility IMO. When and if they do move (7-10 years from now) it'll be an East Coast city like Charlotte, Montreal, etc. I think a move to actual Tampa and a new stadium would work just as well as Montreal would, but a Canadian rivalry in the AL East would be great too.
Cleveland-----What's the deal? THey used to be among the best in attendance? The team has had decent success recently and a few good players come through. Would a move to Columbus or Indianapolis be better? Cleveland supports their other teams. Or will winning help? They've won and still drawn shitty crowds.
CWS---------Ghettos. Projects errywhere. What a terrible location. Working professionals and families aren't gonna go to a game in the fricking ghetto so far from home and work. Literally nothing in the south side. Not even some decent bars/restaurants around the area. I think a lakeside move closer to the skyline like Grant Park would do wonders for their attendance.
Miami-------Miami is just a shitty city for baseball. Obviously they're stuck there now, but I think an Orlando move could've done better than they currently do.
Houston------winning will fix this IMO. The state of TX is all bandwagon Rangers fans right now, but if Houston starts winning and fixes their tv deal, you'll start to see more Astros fans.
KC-----------great city for baseball, but just a small market. I expect their attendance to uptick this year, but just a terrible market.
NYM----------winning will fix this too, though they kind of have the same issue as the CWS building in a bad area.
OAK---------THe move to San Jose needs to happen. If it does, this team could see a resurgence and be a big player.
ATL---------I know some opposed the move, but I think moving to the north suburbs where a lot of people work and live will be much better for attendance. Plus, it makes it more attractive for people in N GA (Chattanooga area) to make it for a game on the weekends too.
Honestly, I think there should be contraction of two teams, but people don't ever want to face that. Judging by revenues, attendance, and team valuation, the Rays would definitely be one of them. The other team should be between the Royals, Indians, and Marlins. (it won't be the marlins because of the new park)

I remember seeing renderings for a new facility a while back around the time that they changed from the Devil Rays to the Rays. What ever happened with that?

TV deal is finally fixed for this season for most cable subscribers. Plus the team is finally starting to trend upward, a little. I expect attendance to improve soon.

It'll be a while before any stadium gets approved. I think that they're in a lease with the Trop until 2027.

Exactly.
Historically the Stros have had pretty solid attendance, start winning again and it will come around. Can't blame people for not wanting to shell out money to watch a shite product. I'm optimistic the 100 loss seasons are done with for a long long time.

Well, nobody want to mention it because they'll seem racist, but demographics are a huge difference. I think a park closer to down town and on the lake could do wonders for the White Sox.
It's a shame too. I think the White sox have some of the best logos and uniforms in the league.

I think Cleveland will be fine when they get better. Those Albert Belle teams would sell out every game before the season from what I remember. But, the economy may be bad enough that they will never see anything like that again.

Some of it may be the grudges they hold against the Dolan family. I mean to go through seeing CC and Cliff Lee traded away. But at some point, it becomes the fact that Cleveland people just don't support baseball.
Back in the Albert Belle days, they were still in the honeymoon period with a new ballpark. THey also had the perfect storm where the browns just left and the economy was booming. I think this is more the norm than the 90s.

They've only been good once since that title run though.

Those cities just need a winner. If Houston wins, they'll attract crowds. It's a good baseball town. But when your an MLB doormat for 5 years and rebuild like they have, it's difficult to draw crowds on a Tuesday night in June in game 75 of 162 when you're already 15 under .500.

Yeah, Houston is funny. Fan-wise it's a great football town, solid baseball town, and below average basketball town, but in terms of winning, basketball is first (Rockets, UH), baseball is second, and football is third.

Speaking of attendance, remember those Rockies teams in the 90's that would get over 4 million per year? What happened to them? Same thing that happened to Cleveland IMO, honeymoon phase ran out for their new ballparks.

The area around that ball park isn't even that bad. Their attendance issues have everything to do with them sucking for so long outside of 2005.
