It'll be a while before any stadium gets approved. I think that they're in a lease with the Trop until 2027.

Something will get done before 2027, either the Rays get out of the lease or they will move. It is an ongoing process, the Rays trying to get the ability to look in both counties, St. Pete is trying to prevent that right now.

ATL---------I know some opposed the move, but I think moving to the north suburbs where a lot of people work and live will be much better for attendance. Plus, it makes it more attractive for people in N GA (Chattanooga area) to make it for a game on the weekends too.

Gonna suck for Gwinnett residents that have to hit up I-285 during rush hour which is pretty much as bad as the Downtown Connector to the Ted.

Honestly, I think there should be contraction of two teams

With US population growth, and the growth of the overall world talent pool, there is some good evidence that MLB should actually expand if they want to improve the overall product on the field.

Speaking of attendance, remember those Rockies teams in the 90's that would get over 4 million per year? What happened to them? Same thing that happened to Cleveland IMO, honeymoon phase ran out for their new ballparks.

The Rox do quite well in attendance IMO considering how terrible they've been the last 7 years. THey were top 10 last year. I guess they do terribly on tv or get hosed on the media deal because despite top 10-15 attendance, their team valuation is down in the 20s.

Cleveland-----What's the deal? THey used to be among the best in attendance? The team has had decent success recently and a few good players come through. Would a move to Columbus or Indianapolis be better? Cleveland supports their other teams. Or will winning help? They've won and still drawn shitty crowds.

Cleveland had the 455 consecutive game sell out when the Browns moved and Cleveland didnt have an NFL franchise. That is the main reason behind the streak. It didnt hurt that the Tribe went to 2 World Series during that time as well. Perfect storm!

The sport itself isn't growing at the youth level though and the media coverage isn't growing.

How would adding teams improve the product? It would just water the talent down.

This. I don't want to say that ballpark is in a bad neighborhood, but you can see these people's apartment building from there…

IMO, MLB needs to get drastic to improve the game. Here is my opinion. Get rid of the DH or make everyone use the DH. After that, get rid of the AL/NL set up and go to a set up that has Major and Small market teams in an East/West format. Thats only fair since there is no salary cap. Play every team in MLB. Give the fans a better choice. As an Indians fan, i dont buy season tickets because i get KC, Minny, ChiSox every other freakin game. Give me better options. Give the fans the oppurtunity to see every team in MLB. Spice it up! Here is how i think it should be set up:

Major East:

NY Yankees
NY Mets
Boston
Philadelphia
Washington
Atlanta
Toronto
Detroit

Small East:

Cleveland
Cincinnati
Pittsburgh
Baltimore
Miami
Milwaukee
Tampa Bay

Major West:

Chicago Cubs
Chicago Sox
LA Angels
LA Dodgers
St Louis
San Francisco
Texas
Houston

Small West:

Oakland
Seattle
Arizona
Colorado
San Diego
Kansas City
Minnesota

To some, that's a key component of the argument. Pitching staffs are loaded from top to bottom with 95+ mph arms. Expand, and watch a natural infusion of offense come back to the game. It's worked every other time in the history of MLB.

Dumb as shite. THere's actually more parity in the MLB than the NFL. Complete myth. LINK

Rivalry games make a lot of fricking money. See Cards-Cubs, Red Sox-Yanks, Braves-Mets.

The interleague games are fun.

Good point, but I also see teams like the astros and padres who couldn't hit for shite and think there will be 2 other teams like that.

Certainly something worth studying. The question is...which two cities?

The only one where full blown relocation seems like the solution is TB. I think they will be in Charlotte by 2025 honestly.

As you said Oakland needs to move to Silicon Valley. It's a shame it's being blocked. They would do really well there I think

Most of the others will be fixed with consistent on field success. I really don't understand Cleveland though. In the late 90s they were probably the best fans in baseball.

Whatever happened to the group who wanted to get the rays and bring the expos back?

either a move to Tampa, or they're gone. I think Montreal is the next city to earn a team though.

I think they'll be in San Jose by 2018-2019.

It was a perfect storm for them. Booming economy, brand new ballpark, Browns left leaving many fans to hold onto the Indians, 2 World series appearances. The Cleveland market is one of the worst.

would be awesome.

BTW, just saw this picture of when the White sox handed out white panchos during the rain. Not the best neighborhood to wear these in.
