the bullet wasn't stopped, it was just deflected, no? that's how it looked in the gif.

This leads me to believe that the best cover in a home would be an aquarium. Ill go buy one

Mythbusters did something like this with shooting into water. If I recall correctly they said that if you are about 3 feet under water you would be perfectly safe. They even shot a .50 and it basically disintegrated the bullet as soon as it hit the water.
