This will be my first year attending Jazz fest.

Tickets are about 70 dollors and I heard the food is to die for. How much money should I budget for food. Anything I need to bring extra for the day? Hat, water, sunglasses?

Just a general overview and tip would be helpful. Thanks!

Make sure you know where you "got yo shoes at". Lacking this information could cost you an arm and a leg.

I usually spend about $200/day on food and beer. Of course, I usually buy a 12 pack at a time and do it often for my crew. Bring a soft sided ice chest so you don't have to go to the bar as often.

Yes. maybe a chair and/or blanket.

Also, the night shows are where it's at.

I budget $30 for parking hoping to spend $20. I budget $20 for food per person if I can afford to. As for water, I try to sneak in at least 2 bottles per person. When I run out, I go to the grand stand and refill at the water fountains there.

all the food items are typically between 8 and 10 dollars. so if you are only doing food, then budget appropriately. if you are doing beer as well, those cost about 5 or 6 bucks per.

yeah definitely all of the above if you want to prevent death.

you're also allowed to bring waters in, so i'd suggest freezing a few and bringing them in to help save $$ if you are worried about a budget.

blanket is also useful if you are going to move from stage to stage. if you plan on setting up shop, then bring a chair as well.

have fun

Crawfish Monica is good, but some of my favorites from past years have been the seafood stuffed mushrooms and the crabmeat po'boy.

The Jambalaya (even the one from Gonzales) is always terrible Creole crap. Stick to more restaurant or plate lunch style food as it is generally awesome.

i typically spend around $60 on food and beer per day. i park off city park ave for free in the neighborhoods around there. you typically have to get there by 11 or 12 in order to get relatively close, though, depending on the day.

Because I don't park. I walk or ride a bike, usually on LSD.

Last year I was told to throw out water before coming in fwiw. Not sure if that's changing this year.

Are you going on a particular day for music? If not, go on Locals Thursday which happens to have the best lineup this year. The crowds are thin. As for your eating, my way to enjoy as much as possible is to find the booths that have combo plates of the three dishes they offer ($10-$13), most booths have combo plates. Feel free to set up shop with your chairs and what not in front of the Acura or Gentilly Stages. Come and go as you please. Ive never had anyone steal my stuff.

If you are going for a big name performer, expect to set up camp as soon as the gates open. Nothing worse than being 200 yards from the stage, watching it on the screen, with the sound blown away in the wind.

If you like to smoke weed, feel free, just be mindful of the women and children.

You can park at Cabrini High School on Esplanade Ave for $30 or $40, i don't know, I've never parked. If you do this, don't be in a rush to leave, traffic.

If you don't have a budget, go multiple days for eating. It's worth it if you don't get the cuisine often. I know several grey tops that just go to eat, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. At the end of the day, some booths will wrap a go plate for ya.

No one eats on acid, so headie doesn't have much to offer in this thread; but he sure can recommend some salty jams.

Happy Fest.

Another question:

Are there a lot of cops there? What is the deal on drugs? What about drinking for 18 yo?
