#5. Even Apocalyptic Poverty Isn't That Bad

Hell, tell me that none of you haven't had at least one point in your life when you would have gladly traded your accommodations for the run-down but freaking enormous Victorian house in Fight Club

#4. Financial Wounds Always Heal

a certain percentage of us grew up in homes where you knew that if a baseball went through a window, that shite was staying broken.

#3. You Can Live a Comfortable Life With a Menial, Low-Skill Job

there's a pretty simple reason why everybody on TV has a fairly huge apartment or house -- it's impossible to shoot a TV show in a cramped space.

#2. You Can Always Travel if You Really Need to

if you take that job in another state, you're doing it knowing you won't get to spend Christmas with your family, won't see your best friend's wedding, and may not be there for your parents' final moments of life -- even if you know they're near the end, and you've only got money for one ticket and two days off work, you have to time it so that you're really sure they'll die during one of those two days.

#1. Things Can Only Get So Bad, No Matter How Irresponsible You Are

They never lose their homes, the bank doesn't seize their businesses, and they don't have to take a second job instead of sleeping.

I realize this is just clickbait, but it's pretty spot on. I always wonder how people on TV and movies can just suddenly spring for last minute plane tickets and take a week off of work without taking a financial hit. I realize you are supposed to suspend disbelief, but it's hard to do that with the financials.

Money is THE object of Hollywood, yet most movies and TV shows don't line up with a 8 to 12 hour work day and the need for sleep. Unless it's a police/crime show were they are working the entire movie.

I'm far from being rich, but I did this just over a year ago with no problem. Took a week off and went to Vegas.

Grown ups prepare for unexpected expenses by not spending every dime they earn.
Most adults have leave time that they can take. If not, many companies have programs where other employees donate leave time for coworkers who are experiencing emergencies or illness.
This isn't some kind of crazy difficult feat.

A (not so) subtle attempt at stirring up class envy, perhaps?

well a big part of the article is about how tv characters are specifically not doing this

this is more "surprise trip to vegas" and not "my father died and i live across the country"

Well....some do.
Far too many people deprive themselves of enjoying life during their best years for the ridiculous notion of stockpiling money. Then when they are old and can't do shite any more, they have all this useless money. You can't take it with you, people.
