Just read in the advocate the article about the legal issues facing the owner of the Spanish Town Market and learned the grocery came under new ownership in the last 2 years. I used to eat at the grocery pretty frequently, but its been about 4-5 years. Has anyone been since the new owners took over? If so, how's the food?

I was in there a few months ago. He cleaned the place up but it's pretty much the same. He applied for a liquor license and was denied, which is stupid but apparently he didn't apply for a dope license. With those felony charges against him he has a good chance of doing some real time so I'd venture to guess it might come back up for sale.

I was in there at Christmas. I just bought some beer, but the store had been cleaned up a good bit and was looking pretty good. A shame that BR Narcs are still up to their same ol' game.

Was he selling wine? I think he was aiming for that which why in hell they wouldn't give him a liquor license is beyond me.

As far as Narcs, he was charged with distribution so not like he was just enjoying a fat one and got popped, he was apparently dealing out of the store. If I was a neighborhood customer I wouldn't want that either.

The Blanches really fixed up the place a lot. They started selling fresh fruit and veggies. They had wanted to sell wine and liquor, but some of the kooks in the neighborhood put a stop on that -- they were afraid it would attract winos. We get food from there once a week or so. Solid burgers and fries.
Sucks to see what happened to them. They used to live across the street from us. They were always friendly and it seemed like nothing was going on there than the usual partying folks in their 20s do -- like setting up a beer pong table on a Saturday afternoon.
