It's the altitude pursuit for me

Gotcha. Had a friend get sick on Denali and another made it.

Another just summited Aconcagua. Those summits and their significance aren't my thing but I love to hear stories.

I've got a friend who's done the 7 summits, but not for me. I love elevation but I don't care for extreme altitudes.

I couldn't be a Seven Summits guy who just paid his way up on the mountains, but if I was going to devote time and money to it I'd think I'd want to achieve a climb of some note for the average person. I don't have any ambition to be an elite mountaineer or anything, although I think it's awesome, I just can't imagine I'd ever be in a position to pursue it with that much dedication.

Watch the documentary. Its about the deaths of 11 climbers on k2. Its also a fascinating study of how a chain reaction of poor decisions can lead to tragedy.

This. The documentary makes pretty clear the people who knew what they were doing, and those who pulled everyone down... By thousands of feet.

I like reading, hearing about/ watching other people do it.

But,climbing has never been an option for me because I am sick-scared of heights.

I'm terrified of heights, but not on a mountain. Just some weird psychological thing but I have no problem standing on a 2,000 foot drop, but I freak out in a 10 story elevator.

Living within hours of the mountains is key (obviously) but once you summit that first mountain you're addicted or you're not. It's an awesome high.

Great documentary. There's also, Everest IMAX and a few other mountain movies on netflix. I got real into it last month when the bodies on Everest thread was going on. Freaky, macabre, fascinating stuff.

Just watched it. Very interesting documentary. It seems to me that they should limit the amount of people that can go up at a time, but i know i little about climbing so that may be a stupid idea

I've done a little climbing, and always had a hankering to try one of the big peaks, but life gets in the way. At this point I'm not willing to make the sacrifice of time and resources to do something like that.
