Actually they are all very good at the part of recruiting they are involved in. You can't really say who's best bc without either of them we would be missing a link imo. Cams pretty damn good at recruiting QBs too. He hasn't been here long and we have had some good sucess with him almost immediately. Once it's all said and done I think we will look back and say that was the best recruiting staff ever at LSU and I believe if the pieces fall right Les still has a couple of championships coming. GT

Wilson is first because he has been doing it at LSU before the others even got here.

I wouldn't object. It's more of a 1A & 1B thing. Both top 5 recruiters in the country.

I gotcha, I thought we were going off of overall best based on career not just recently at LSU. Great topic to hash out. Filthy recruiting staff top to bottom.

1 Orgeron
As said he taught Wilson. Also look at his history. He brought in studs at Miami, basically ran recruiting during the USC Carroll era, loaded OM with talent(just couldn't coach it), went back to USC and loaded them up(they had the top class 3 years ago locked if Kiffin didn't screw it up) and now is already having a big influence on our recruiting. Guys a legendary recruiter. No assistant has his resume.

2 Wilson
It's about organization and overseeing it all. He does that for us even now. Also pretty damn good as an individual prospect recruiter. I do side on the side that he's a little overrated by LSU people but he's still a star and the overall impact from beginning to end each cycle is huge.

3 Raymond
Can't speak to his resume before LSU but since he's been here he's been fantastic. Guy connects with kids on a level that's hard to do. To me he's one of the top rising stars in the country in recruiting. For a guy with little to no major ties to FL, he really kills it in that state. Novice or amateur recruiting fans don't understand just how difficult it is to navigate recruiting in FL. Its the most volatile state in recruiting. The kids are as fickle and savvy in recruiting as any in the country and there are a shitload of hanger ons to deal with

4 Steele
He's relentless and a great salesman. His resume is what puts him here. He's recruited well everywhere he's been aside from Baylor but to be honest that's a tough place to recruit to.(shows how amazing the job Briles has done there but that's another thread) Saban is a recruiting staff HC and he keeps hiring Steele. Tells you how good he is

5 Grimes
He is a little different in that he only recruits his position so that hurts him but he's top notch at that job. He's got a long history of recruiting well on the OL. The underrated part of his recruiting is his never giving up or losing touch with a kid just in case circumstances change. Anyone that remembers the Christian Westerman recruitment will understand. It also showed up in the 15 class. He never stopped recruiting Brown or Chidi and that relentlessness is what landed them even though with different circumstances with other schools he wouldn't have gotten them. His keeping in touch is what was important in landing those 2 kids

6 Peveto
He doesn't pull many kids and isn't a greatly respected recruiter but he does a very good job connecting with those 1-2 kids every year and making it count. Also very good at finding the connection from the past and uses it to really gain trust with kids and their parents

7 Cameron
Only recruits QBs but that's OK. It's an important position. He uses his rep and it works. Besides any guy that can recruit good to elite QB prospects here with our recent history has to be good. Imagine the negative recruiting he has to deal with

8 Ensminger
All about connections and contacts. He's the google or phone book of our staff. The job he does doesn't really show up in the public eye. He's more a behind the scenes guy and it works for him. People would be amazed at how instrumental his voice is on our board and with Frank Wilson and Les. They listen to him and greatly respect his thoughts. He also has that knack for pulling a rabbit out of his hat every 2-3 years that surprises us all. The Teuhema brothers are here because of him.

9 Ball
No clue how he is so can't really put him higher. With the 8 above and Less he doesn't need to be great. He just needs to connect with wr recruits. Imagine he can do that

Les Miles
I personally think he's top 5 in the country as a recruiting HC. Only Saban and Meyer are set above him. Anyone else is debateable. The guy just connects with kids and parents. They love the guy and trust him. He's different than Saban and Meyer but is still effective and its also why those 3 tend to draw different kinds of kids. People trust Les as a man and father figure. Parents trust he will take care of their children. Saban is the guy that families choose with business in mind. Kids go to Bama with the intent of making money in the future. Nothing wrong with that. Meyer is like Barry Switzer. He's a con man. It works for him so I can't hate the game but I do loathe him. He will sell whatever he needs to to land a kid whether it be God, pro aspirations, family man or just pure freedom. His kids get free reign for the most part. He's just sleeze but it works for him. Personally if I were choosing a HC for my kid I'd prefer Les.

lsufanva you nailed it bro!! This is the best recruiting staff in the country hands down! The other coaches are scarred to death!

Steele,O, and Wilson have all been national recruiters of the year! Whose the first person Saban called when he went to Bama.....Steele, Steele set his recruiting board that led to , well you know

Raymond the past 2 years has made major leaps!! It's insane what we have going right now.

Like many, the Chavis situation really rubbed me raw. How many schools can lose one of the best DCs in the country..........and possibly end up with their best Defensive Class in school history the next year

I'm guessing that Coach Raymond is Saivion's primary recruiter. Anyone know who his secondary recruiter is?

anywhere else in the country O is #1 hands down.

but at LSU Frank is number one solely due to the amount of connections he has in this area. its unreal.

id say Frank then O then Raymond, Grimes, then the rest follow them.

the recruiting is awesome. they need to prove they can develop the two most important positions on the field...QB and DE. the development has been lacking for a while there

Frank's been here doing his thing. Steele & O will take us to another level.

...that's because now they can exclusively do what Frank Wilson has been doing across the board on defense by going after and getting more higher level players.

Wilson, O, Raymond, Grimes, Cameron, and Steele all on the same level (extremely high).

And the part of the closer will continue to be played by Coach Les Miles.

You would think this is priority #1

It's nice to see us reaching out to more top QB talent in the past few weeks.

This will help with the development process. You see they are going back to recruiting pro-style QBs who have mobility. IMO, this will help speed up the development process by not having to spend time teaching things to a spread or dual-threat QB that a high school pro-style QB coming into this system would already know from being under center more.
