Tankless water heaters. Worth it?

The dumbass who built my house put a 75-gallon tank in the attic, but left no way to get it out (or get a new one in) without tearing the house apart. I'm going to have to go tankless, but the labor alone on the retrofit is gonna cost me $1600.
People swear by these things. Is it worth the investment?

Depends. Is it a hot water heater or a cold water heater?

I like mine. But I did the labor myself. Not sure it would be worth $1600 to me.

Too wide to come down the attic staircase?
You could cut out an opening in the garage then build an attic cover for it and trim it out.

Just drain it and leave it up there..

Just a little heads up from working in commercial sales. New government restrictions on efficiency of water heaters means the price is going up 20% across the board on water heater tanks. The route to go is tankless on this.

Have you ever taken an hour-long shower? I have...

My only real option. Maybe I could convert it into an isolation chamber.

That's all they use here in Asia. They are easy to install and if you buy from Ace Hardware they will install it for free. Get a good one with like a 5 year Warranty. Never had any issues!

Just got one put in last week. Gas to replace old tank.Company wanted $4400. I bought the same unit on Amazon for $1500. Paid them labor of $1300 to install. Utility co giving me a $550 rebate for efficiency upgrade. Noritz 9.8 gpm. No more cold showers after the wife.

The hot water is limitless. That's the main benefit. A little more efficient, yes, but at the end of the day it's all about convenience. Make sure if it's sized properly and if you have a large (ish) house possibly get two.

Hot is a relative term. You can still heat hot water.

Are you sure about that? I've never heard Ace doing it for free

Once you have had a tankless system, you will never go back. One tip is that if possible, install it as close as possible to your master shower.
