Why do some posts get marked unreadable but some get removed from the thread?

This is what we were taught in Admin School. A 'deleted' post sends a message to the individual poster. A post marked 'unreadable' sends a message to the entire board.

Also, I have seen the red unreadable thing , and then someone is quoting that post below ...well if that is the case, that post ain't so unreadable now is it. Should the original post and all the quotes take from the original post be marked red.

When I see a post that's marked unreadable, first thing I do is look at the replies to see if someone quoted it.
