I thought Southwest always did around $75/flight between Dallas and Nola but I can't find anything less than $260/flight for any weekend this year. Anyone know what happened?

I do not do that route but I do Fort Lauderdale to N.O. often. I just purchased some tickets pushed out way in advance and the weekends were a little higher than what I used to pay. I looked at some nearer trips and the weekends were really high for this route also.

They nickle and dime you on everything. The time I checked them, Southwest was still cheaper when you figured in their costs above the ticket price.

Southwest really isn't really the low cost airline anymore. They'll usually be less but not enough to offset the trashy zoo atmosphere of it all.

Southwest is no where near what they used to be.

I fly it pretty often, but I don't know what you are talking about. The cheapest I've seen in the last couple years was like $180 round trip and that was 6 months in advance. Most of the time I fly it's short notice and it's $5-600 but that's for business select.

Could be the Wright Amendment that expired last fall. Southwest is now allowed to fly direct to anywhere out of Love Field in Dallas. Up until then, Southwest had to stop in an adjacent state and then continue on to wherever....Atlanta, Florida....So Nola would have been a mini hub for SWA back then.

If you're not packing heavy, Spirit is much cheaper. What people don't realize is that you van bring a few personal item on board for free. Something the size of a backpack

I fly from Dallas to NOLA 2-3 weekends a month. Friday night and Sunday nights are the most expensive and packed flights. Try early Saturday and Monday morning flights. I flew for $80 roundtrip the last two weekends in January.

Edit: On Southwest I should add. Spirit is cheap, but they nickle and dime you and they only have one flight a day that leaves at 12:30.

Weekends are always more expensive on SW. I flew Dallas to MSY 2 weeks ago for $41 each way. I left on a Wed night and flew back on a Monday.

Yeah they do! Use the "Wanna get away price". Book it 6 weeks before the flight for the best price "maybe". Sometimes the price will go up.

God don't tell me this.

For some reason, my elderly boss only flies Southwest, which I've never flown. When his girl booked our travel yesterday, I realized that Southwest is the airline with no assigned seats and I have to go to freaking New Orleans airport.

I have no idea why he, who is very well off and has no desire to be around all kinds of people, is partial to an airline without assigned seating that requires a drive to New Orleans.

If Baton Rougeans would quit doing this we would have more flights and bigger planes here. I do not see the appeal in flying SW at all. I do occasionally fly them, but much prefer other airlines and BTR airport.

As far as flight prices, $75 roundtrips are long gone. Airlines have cut capacity and decreased competition. You may catch a sale on Spirit/Frontier/Allegiant, but as others said, pack light and sit up straight
