I have a borg warner 4406 4l34-b. it is on a 2004 f150. 4x4 disengages under high rpm's. I took it to a transmission shop and they replaced the high low range selector. Problem kept happening. Took it back and they put shims on the shaft said it had to much slack. Problem still exist. I replaced the shift motor and the coil on the inside and the problem still exist. What could be wrong with it. Works in low rpm's. But when you get the tires to spinning it kicks out with a loud jerk.

If they replaced that stuff I hope you didn't pay for it after it didn't work.

No. I paid for the parts because I broke the selector when I took it apart. I haven't paid for any labor or the shims

Do the tires stop turning, or does it actually change itself back to 2wd?

It kicks back into 2wd. Checked it while on jack stands. Transfer case makes rattling noise after it kicks out

And then it'll switch right back fine?

Sorry I was out of pocket for a while. Yeah it will kick back in when you apply the brake and slow down the tires. Then accelerate and it kicks back out

I'm located around Monroe. Transmission guy says the transfer case looks fine. No metal shavings in the oil. Chain is good. Forks are fine and all the gears and planataries look fine. He is kind of lost. He told me to bring it back cause it's still under warranty. But it is becoming a waste of time

Sounds like fricked up shaft teeth if I had to take a wild guess

Is this a problem in both 4hi and 4lo? If so I would take a look at the actuator solenoid and sleeve, also the splines/fingers engagement.

Is the transfer case actually shifting out of 4wd or do the front wheels just stop pulling?

It's in both hi and lo. The transfer case is kicking out of 4wd. Shaft quits spinning and a grinding noise is come from transfer case

From what I got out of it was when the thing had a load, it popped out, and when it didn't, it went right back in. Maybe check tranny/engine mounts also?

It definitely pops out under a load. It will pop out also while the truck is on jack stands and you accelerate. Run fine for a few seconds and then it kicks out. Transmission mounts are good. Just pulled the tranny and replaced flywheel. Engineounta are also solid.

What would the engine mounts have to do with it? Just wondering.

Slight movement anywhere could cause disengagement.

The popping out on jackstands has be puzzled though. There isn't enough load on anything when it's jacked up. You sure those splines aren't fricked up?

I'm not sure actually. Tranny mechanic has broke it down twice and said everything looks fine. I didn't brake the shaft down when I separated it. But there has been no metal shavings or anything in the oil or on the magnet

Do you have a body lift?

I meant does your truck have a body lift on it.

Wouldn't be the first transfer case linkage to get messed up leading to real problems.
