Is there a dumber socio-political meme than "Women get 70 cents on the dollar"

wage meme?

Women that make less, do less work, and work fewer hours because they prioritize home life(kids and such). I mean there are other factors, but those are the biggies.

But let's just blame sexism.

Patricia Arquette. . .dumb bitch

It's less about doing less work and more about the fact that men are more likely to do skilled labor jobs which are relatively higher paying jobs. Men are also more likely to go to college for Engineering and computer science. It's not a grand conspiracy.

Many firms I know fall all over themselves to give women preferential treatment from what I can tell. They'll put up with sheer incompetence if the woman is remotely attractive. Sometimes to a point where it becomes pathetic.

eta: I've also seen situations where a woman busted her arse and showed great promise only to be passed up for a promotion because the higher ups were afraid it would look like they promoted her because she had boobs. It can be tricky..

All of my sisters close friends graduated in 08 and they're all making +100k. A lot of IEs and CMs and none of them went into engineering.

Why don't they start their own business? What's preventing them from inventing something and selling it? Bitching about men holding them back, how about quit working for men and start working for themselves!

If there are salary discrepancies for the same job, then it's probably the woman's fault in the first place. Lots of salaries are negotiable. I know whenever I got my job, i negotiated with my boss on a higher salary than what he offered. Id be willing to bet that a lot of women aren't as aggressive at doing this. Additionally, if this is the case across many sectors, then women have no one to blame but themselves, no? Why should an employer offer a woman more money if they think they can hire them for less? The idea that everyone should make the same amount just for having the same job is pretty strange.

you are just describing the sad vestiges of the patriarchy. you're taking advantage of a system built by men, for men, that excludes women due to the socialization they receive in the social system (built by men, for men) that encourages them not to be aggressive and to be docile when faced with male opposition.

"For every dollar that a man makes, a woman makes 70 cents. That doesn't make sense. That's not fair. The man is only left with 30."

The ignorance on this board is unsettling. Women get paid less than men in the same occupation.

And yes the government and other organizations should spend money on recruiting more women ing engineering and technology fields. It has been ingrained in young girls that boys are better at math and science. Not to mention, the fact that many engineering occupation is so overwhelmingly dominated by men is a major obstacle for women. Between this thread and the other dumbass thread about percentage of blacks in jail has proven the OT is full of morons.

Radical feminists are annoying, but nowhere near as annoying as white males who fail to admit their inherent privilege.
