Who Takes Over in Left Field?

I don't know if this has already been discussed or not but who do y'all think should take over as the permanent starter in left field? Obviously Stevenson and Laird will be mainstays in center and right, respectively, but its tough to say who will be the everyday guy in left.

Foster has played really well to this point and he's made clutch plays for us in the past. Obviously Fraley has all the tools but he's struggled a little bit thus far. Is it too early to say who takes over as the starter?

Either way, it's a good problem to have when you're having to decide between two very talented players.

Personally, I think we should take a chance and put Laird in Left and Foster/Fraley in RF. Laird has the weakest arm but has great range. Foster has a cannon and that's huge in RF. I will keep saying this until it happens IT JUST MAKES SENSE, frick

Don't less balls go into RF which is why you would put the weakest arm individual over there?

Either way, laird and Stevenson are by far the best defensive outfielders. Marks arm hasn't hurt us any the last 2 years. No reason to worry about it now.

I do agree foster has a cannon though

How many games has not having a strong arm in RF cost us over the years?

It's the longest throws consistently. You're never trying to throw a guy out at 1st, but are at 3rd and home. RF needs to have a strong arm. If Laird is the 2nd best fielder, don't more balls go there? Seems like it'd be a perfect fit to me.

ETA: Our arms have somewhat hurt us. Didn't we get all of 2 assists from the outfielders last season? That's pretty bad. Foster is not a bad fielder at all and I'm sure hitting was the reason he wasn't seeing the field last year.

Fraley is the long term answer. Foster is the short term answer. Foster is playing better right now so let him play LF.

Foster's arm in right saved the SEC championship game for us in 2013 against Vanderbilt.

LINK

I like Laird a lot, so I'm not necessarily knocking him here, but he can't make that throw.

I think Maineri will keep Laird in right and play match ups with Fraley and Foster in left though.

I agree with y'all...just sucks because I think their skill sets fit better at opposite OF positions. I feel like I've heard Mainieri talk about the sun being part of the issue maybe? I can't remember

True.

Bottom line we have a stacked outfield.

He has to make the longest throw to 3rd. Your weakest arm goes in left. RF is the hardest OF position to play. The easiest OF position to play is LF.

The weak player in RF mentality comes from youth leagues.

If Foster doesn't start in left then he should DH; I like him a lot more than Chinea.

I would say Fraley is my favorite player on the team this year, but his bat is coming around too slow..
Yes it's early, but if Foster is gonna take up Fraley's slack at the plate, then you have to go with Foster.
I see their defense as pretty even.

You're missing the point. Laird CAN make that play in left, but Laird CAN'T make that throw in right. Also, that catch in left could just as easily happen in right; not so with the throw.

Yes, he's said several times that since right field is the sun field at home he wants someone there that will be in the lineup every day, can get used to dealing with it, and likely won't be as affected by it.

Foster was in right early last year but when he didn't hit Laird was moved back.
