steve the original husband decided he wanted to go do broadway in real life.. so he left the show, but they wrote in for the show that he wanted to leave to be a park ranger.. so that was it for his character.

jefferson comes in as the new husband in marcy's life.. because the show is made for there to absolutely be two neighbors.

what i really like is how both steve and jefferson were both great characters in their own right.. so it was a good transition. i think i like steve more, but both were good.

they later allowed steve to come back on the show for an episode.. just for fun and stuff. it wasn't a bad break up between the two sides or anything at all.

The episode when Steve returns is greatness.

I like Jefferson more. The shrew-whipped playboy is a hard character to pull off but he did it perfectly.

Fun fact: One of the episodes between Steve and Jefferson brought together 2 of the best TV dads of all time when Peggy and Marcy go dancing and Peggy picks up a gay man. His husband who comes to cook and watch sports with Al is the same guy who had just started voicing Homer Simpson for Fox's new cartoon.

Is My Wife and Kids a direct homage to Married with Children? Like just a straight up black people's version?

That episode is hilarious.

That's the one where the guy goes, "You had Pete's potato?"

If Marcy was so rich, how was she living in the same neighborhood as the Bundys?

Jefferson D'Arcy might be the G.O.A.T. supporting comic character.

I don't think she was rich. She just worked at a bank.

Yeah it wasn't like she was really rich, she had enough to support herself and have a nice car with a stable job. She obviously lived a nicer lifestyle than the Bundy's. Jefferson was an ex-con who was just going to mooch off her. He had no money or ever desired to hold a job so anything was an upgrade for him.

She was a manager or something. Not just some teller. She drove a Mercedes and always had money for Jefferson. Al sold women's shoes and had to support Peggy and two kids. Marcy was probably upper middle class. There's no way those two should live across the street from each other.
