saints are currently $20M over this year and Drew has 2 years left on his contract and a $26M hit this year. How would a restructure next year benefit anyone? There is no way to restructure the deal next year as there would be no other years to take on the contract hit.
A restructure does not help anyone now, only an extension would help the team.

I read somewhere that restructuring this year would raise his cap hit next year (27.4 mil). I'm currently looking for the article.

well only this and next year, you give here it takes next year, extension is the only thing that makes sense in order to lower.
