The playing field is pretty level plus the champions league incentive is huge for teams that may not finish in the top 2/3/4...some good matchups as well. Usually the teams that drop in from the CL couldnt care less but if you arent locked into a champions league spot you better take it seriously

It's European competition, even if it is the NIT of footy. I'm always down for an excuse to skip work and get rinsed

That is still putting lipstick on a pig. Even the dropped CL teams play their reserves quite heavily. EL doesn't do it for me.

I view it in a simar way to the COC. The lower league teams will look to win it nearly at all costs, especially with the added CL spot. The major teams will look at it as a way to blood some of their younger players or give time to some backups. This changes however around the quarter final and semis and at this point even the large teams should look to win it. It's still a good trophy and that is always a boost to players, fans, and club.

I find it interesting. Competition is good and the outcome is less certain than the CL.

The outcomes of group stages of CL are practically set. Half the teams in the round of 16 have no chance in the CL.

the thing i like about the NIT comparison is some of the matchups you can get. kinda like when kentucky plays at robert morris or LSU at san francisco.

this competition can be a springboard for some of those 'mid-majors' as well. look at porto in 2002/2003, that set the table for their CL run the following year and got the mourinho hype train started.
