Long story short: they wrote the Cosby part with Eddie Murphy in mind. They wanted Eddie to do something that would bring the house down. At the end of the day, Eddie didn't want to kick Cosby while he was down. MacDonald says that's what makes Eddie the best: he doesn't need the laughs.

"It was during Spade's "Hollywood Minute" segment on Update. Spade showed a picture of Murphy, who at that point had strung together a few consecutive bombs, and a said "Look kids, it's a falling star. Make a wish."

Can't believe Eddie got that mad over that comment

It's a valid reason. I mean, I don't hold many things sacred from comedy, so I don't actually agree with his choice, but I respect it.

He was not only mad at Spade, but he was pissed that Lorne let the joke on the air. I remember Eddie saying that it wasn't about the joke, it was about the betrayal. Or something.

Spade was asked about this on Kimmel before the show and he made it seem it had been reasonably taken care of before the big show, but between the lines you could tell it wasn't made rosy.

Sounds like Eddie needs to get over himself. It's comedy. Just laugh at yourself and move on.

So Norm is saying that CJ was "never about impressions"? Bull fricking shite. That was the crux of the skit. He even said on some SNL throwback show that he wanted to do Burt Reynolds and wanted to do him as the 70s Burt because that's the version he liked the most.

And I think I saw/read at some point that David Spade never really loved Hollywood Minute because he felt bad for ragging on celebrities and it felt mean, or something like that. Anybody else remember that?

Also, I see Norm mentioning a Wayne's World sketch...there wasn't one on the SNL40 show, was there? Did I miss it?

Preesh. Where can I find the whole episode? I guess I'll start with NBC or Hulu?

Also, here is a three minute clip on Jim Brewer talking about the Spade/Murphy thing: LINK

ETA: NBC has it.
