For the life he will be able to say he started for LSU. That's something 90%+ of this board wishes they could say.

That really has very little to do with this discussion.

The hate for DJ, much like the hate for JJ was misplaced. Blame the decision makers for playing guys with limited abilities. Hell, he was blamed for missed tackles at times he wasn't in the game.

Not even close to the same.
JJs attitude and actions did him in with fan base.
Only thing welter is guilty of is not being an elite linebacker.

No one "hates" him, they were just critical of his play. What I 'hate' is the extremes to which people will go to describe legitimate critiques of players, coaches and programs.

After watching the highlights, I see several things that made DJ Welter a very poor middle LB, besides being undersized. 1) Welter's feet always stop on contact. He never keeps his feet moving through the tackle 2) Welter never stopped someone in their tracks in the hole. It was always a few yards downfield and the runner is usually falls forward. The times he did tackle someone in the backfield, he was usually assisted by another player. 3) slow reaction time. Fills the hole too slow. 4) could not get off blocks. All of these things, besides not keeping his feet moving through the tackle, could be attributed to his small size and speed for a middle linebacker in the SEC.

Being you, obviously know everything about being a middle linebacker, I guess you can get in and do a better job?

Was getting worried that some fricktard made a video of his worst plays at LSU after seeing the first play in that video (it's the Wisconsin long TD run on the jet sweep)

haha i thought the same thing.

To be honest, this is an underwhelming highlight video.

There are a lot of plays he wasn't involved in, and a lot of "highlights" that are just standard tackles.

This is the dumbest logic in the world. By your logic, Bill Belichick shouldn't be able to critique DJ Welter because DJ Welter is more physically gifted than Bill Belichick.

Blame it on the lynch mob attitude by a lot of the posters.

So you comparing yourself to Belichick makes it all better.

You mean average linebacker. The guilty ones were whoever put him out there and didn't have someone capable to play the position.

Holy shite we have some stupid people who post here.

His critique is very accurate. You do not need to be able to physically do something better than someone else to critique them.

What do you think of Anthony Jennings's arm strength? I know I damn sure can't throw a football further than he can, but I know that his arm strength is not elite.

I have never and will never bash a player as long as he is giving maximum
effort. This goes for Welter or some of the highly rated players that didn't
live up to their hype. There are very few people on this earth that could ever
be an SEC caliber linebacker.

Welter always played hard and he was bashed for making so many tackles
after 10 yard gains. On those very plays, there were 2 or 3 other players
that missed the tackle

I feel bad for DJ. He's definitely aware of the whipping boy label he has gotten among the fanbase. I wish him all the best in his life after college.

Agreed. It's the same situation as with AJ. These are by all accounts good kids who wanted to perform well and win a lot more than those in the fan base. Of course the fans have a right to voice their opinions- but some take things too far.

If the best thing you can say about someone's play is that someone who doesn't play football couldn't do better, you've lost the argument.

Think it through. Basically, you couldn't find a single actual football player to compare him favorably and meaningfully, so you had to move to people who don't actually play his sport and say, "See, he's better than that guy who can't play football!" Talk about damning with faint praise.

He said it doesn't bother him but I'm sure it doesn't feel good having everyone rip you.
