Any of you guys fish or have a camp on Lake Catherine? Is this a decent area for fishing (as compared to other march areas of Louisiana) and is it safe to own a camp down there?

Thanks

Seems like a great location to me. That area is really only good from April-September-ish IMO. I may just not know the hot spots but the majority of my winter trips over there have been busts...

They do have some pretty nice camps tho

I was looking at the area and it seems like a great location to me too. You can fish Rigolets, Ponch, Biloxi Marsh, etc. Pretty close to NOLA as well as Bay St. Louis.

That said, I have never fished that specific area before.

I have never had a good trip out of my aunt and uncles place in the rigolets... BUT for some reason they have only been winter trips.

Maybe i'm just a bad fisherman

Uncle has caught plenty of reds off the pier during the summer tho.

I just think there are some better options in the NOLA area for marsh fishing. And BTW The run from Rigolets to Biloxi marsh is quite a hike. Hope you got a big boat

Nice area and all but not a great fishing destination when compared to 90 % of south La. Marsh fishing.

I have a place nearby in Venetian Isles and have fished Lake Catherine a good bit. I mainly got the place here because I wanted a spot on the water computing distance to NOLA. Ive caught limits of reds and trout on LC, so fishing can be good, but not nearly as good/consistent as Delecroix or Myrtle Grove, or Venice, etc.
Most people I know around here drink more than they fish, but then again, I met most of them at the Hi Tide Bar.
Hope that helps.

ETA - I've always felt safe here and have not had anything stolen. I've heard of a couple thefts/break-ins, but it happens way more in town. I have seen burned out cars on side of the road from time to time. The real bitches are the storms.

We launch at Lake Catherine Marina and fish Rigolets/Biloxi marsh from there. That is 95% of my fishing. We do very well, but you have to know where to go and where things are biting

Winter time fishing the Marquez Canal waterway for trout is dynamite. Very little fishing pressure, deep water, and stacked trout. First bend east from the Chef all the way to the mouth entering Lake Catherine fishing the middle of the bayou this time of year off the charts. Bass fishing also really good.

I have a few friends with camps there the fishing can be pretty good there especially in the fall.

Don't be fooled you are VERY exposed to storms there, both friends have had to do a complete rebuild since Katrina TWICE. That would be my only hesitation about building in the area.

Fished St. Catherine for years. Already been said, but you have to know the spots. My advice would be stick to the marsh in the Southeast section. Lot of cuts and passes to Unknown Pass(yes sounds funny). Plus, look for the ponds if you can get in them. Tides moving you will catch.

I'd love to pick your brain sometime. My dad built a place in treasure isle about a year and a half ago. We killed it off the pier from about august-November but we have really not done well off the boat this winter in lake P and the Rigolets. Partially because we don't have any real go to hot spots, partially because we're just not great fishermen
