Buy 2 tires, get 2 free..

2 tires, installed, costs $465, and that's if you only buy the 2 and don't get the other 2.

Now, if you get the 2 free and get those installed, it's $950.

Isn't the profit margin on tires outrageously high?

Was thinking this the other day. The margins must be huge. It's a chunk of rubber with wire in it.

Especially since they used to basically steal the rubber from Africa.

Can you give any specifics about where this sale is. Did you question the salesman about how this didn't make sense. The only thing I can see is that for the sale they just doubled the price of each of the two tires to make up for giving two for free. Is that all it is?

If that's the case it sucks and the store needs to be called out on it.

They add in a bunch of other shite that they have to do when you get 4 installed.

Can you just buy the tires and get them put on somewhere else?

They probably make more profit on the mount, balance, valve stems, nitrogen, road hazard warranty, etc..........

Did you really think they were going to give you 4 for the price of 2 without some serious bull shite?

The margins at retail on tires are very low. The margins on the service is exteemely high.

Manufacturers have not dropped their price with the lower cost of oil and raw materials so retailers are not making money on tires.

And the natural rubber comes from Asia moslty. Not sure where you got Africa from. And it's costly.

I worked for a manufacturer for years. Now work on the distribution side. There is a lot of money in tires, just not on the retail side unless you do huge volumes, like a discount tire.
