the cup winners cup was a pretty legit competition. Unless you're saying that winning the European Cup is the ONLY international achievement worth claiming? Pretty small minded of you if that's your position.

Anway, weren´t they retroactively disqualified for something quite severe, relegated to French second or third as a result, and had to work their way back?

ironic since you are a Newcastle fan

a club that could spend like gangbuster and not getting in ffp trouble

Unlike you, my club affiliations don't enter into it when I take my positions on things like this. Yes if Newcastle had an owner that have a shite then FFP would be great for the club. That doesn't change my opinion on it though.

I meant, that was eons ago..........

Legit? Yeah, I tend think it is. Unfortunately, fans of those who lose, poopoo it.

There was a big brouhaha. Match fixing, Daniel Hecter did some crazy shite, as did a later president, etcétera.

If you really can't see how FFP is there to help then you are lost.

Seems like the only fans who have an issue with it are City and PSG.

The two clubs trying to loop hole the rules every chance they get.

The more competition argument is dumb b/c its been basically two clubs that have caused all this.

I think that was Marseilles that was relegated due to a bribery scandal in the early 90s.

If there was a rule that just said you can't saddle the club with debt from transfer fees/wages above a certain threshold, that would be one thing. But there is absolutely no reason to prevent an owner who wants to pay cash for those things out of his own pocket from doing so, other than the desire by the top clubs to maintain the status quo.

You always strike me as someone who learned about soccer through wikipedia. You'll come loaded with some facts, but they usually don't accompany any true understanding.

ETA: I'm not trying to be some elitist, but you sort of invite the criticism by constantly trying to stir the pot.

Isn't that what Wikipedia is for? I didn't grow up following soccer and have only done so for the past 7 or 8 years.

Example?

FWIW, I learned about the 96 cup winners cup when I visited the Parc De Princes

I stand corrected. Still, PSG had their fair share of dodginess.

wrongggggg

There is a reason why just about every club voted yes on FFP other than City and PSG

Take United, Liverpool and Arsenal for example. All have stupid rich owners who run their clubs as a business with the end game of turning a profit. City and PSG it is nothing more than a play toy. Once said owner get bored with his play toy, what do you think happens. A club turning a huge loss every year looks bad for a league.

Prolly just having a bad day. I should take a long walk after work, followed by some green tea and deep meditation. Maybe a Lisa Loeb album. Carry on.

As a City fan, I personally think FFP is probably one of the smarter things FIFA has done.

It protects your club in the long run forced them to start a legit youth set up, even if its to save face and use as a right off. Just like NYCFC and Melbourne City.
