Is there even an Sling TV app for the Fire TV yet?
Posted on 2/12/15 at 10:53 am to AnonymousTiger
Good deal. I think I'm in for one when I get home. I want to make sure my LG smart tv has the sling tv app.

I think it becomes available for Fire TV tomorrow.

Dang, thats a good deal.
I dont have cable, but usually use my parents log in for ESPN.
I want to get a firestick anyways, for $20 more looks like I'll be able to watch March Madness (TNT, TBS)?
ETA: I see it has AMC also, thats awesome. Can you watch stuff other than live?

How good is the quality? Should I do this? Because I'm about to.
Posted on 2/12/15 at 11:12 am to SabiDojo
Quality is not quite as good as cable, but still pretty good.

Is it really noticeable? Are we talking like HD quality?

I had Sling TV with the free trial this week, but it was not set up to work with Chromecast yet so I canceled it. I think that the programming (i.e. ESPN) is worth it, so I may go ahead and get the deal since I can now get the Fire Stick for free and run it on my TV.

I can only speak to the quality I saw on my computer. It was good, but still buffered every now and then. Overall, very good.
Maybe someone else can answer as to quality on the TV.
FWIW - you can access a limited amount of programming with the Watch ESPN app too. I think it restricts it to ESPN 1, 2, and 3, and does not allow SEC network, etc. though.

Someone correct me if I am wrong here:
I pay $40 for a firestick, or $60 for a firestick and this sling tv that will give me 3 more months of TV that will allow me to watch march madness and Walking Dead?
Then I can cancel in 3 months?

You can cancel your Sling TV at any time. That's why they are asking you to prepay for the 3 months instead of the $20 a month as usual.

But I'll have to cancel in 3 months to keep from getting the recurring cost.

AMC is "coming soon." I don't think it's actually on there yet.

It doesn't have any DVR functionality (unless somebody knows something I don't)

I believe you can access those channels on WatchESPN if you have the Sports Addon package though, correct?

From what I've read, no. But I did not have the add-on package to try myself. This is what CNET says:

Can I use my Sling TV account to authenticate other TV apps, like Watch ESPN?
Yes, to a certain extent. Sling TV subscribers get a stripped-down version of Watch ESPN app access if they authenticate using their Sling TV login credentials. They can watch live streams of ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN3. Even subscribers to the Sports Extra pack cannot get those extra channels live via Watch ESPN.
Watch ESPN is still subject to the single-stream restriction, so you can't watch live TV via the Watch ESPN app on one device at the same time as you watch any live TV via the Sling TV app on a second device.
Sling says similar apps, like Watch Disney and Watch TNT, will be available to authenticate sometime after launch. It didn't specify whether they would also be subject to the single-stream restriction, but we expect they will.
